WHEN TOO MUCH IS "TOO MUCH!"... what is it with individuals wearing so much cologne or perfume?

WHEN TOO MUCH IS "TOO MUCH! "... what is it with individuals wearing so much cologne or perfume? I have allergies & I know some of you do as well.... I can't handle strong fragrances... especially men's colognes or women's flowery fragrances... it's really hard for me to go to a department store because I will have to by pass the fragrance section.... I have a neighbor whose husband wears so much cologne.... it permeates the entire outdoors atmosphere... I have to close the door when he is in his car... once he came in to use our phone & I told him he couldn't because his fragrance was setting off my allergies & let him use the phone outdoors... I was sick for three days with a sore throat & stuffy nose... another time a regular customer came into our store...same problem..you couldn't get within 3ft of him... I would always let my coworker take my place until he left our dept.... then one day he came in with a light scent... I complimented him.. I told him now the women that were interested in him would be able to get close enough to know him... ;-D why so much?

Sensitivity of their nose It probably has to do with the sensitivity of their nose. If someone does not have a good sense of smell, they cake it on till they can smell it. To others with a normal or acute sense of smell.

This can be stifiling. I have no sense of smell - so - a light scent I would never detect. Thats my opinon .

I have the same problem with perfumes and I buy fragrance-free detergent, fabric softener and can't stand the smell of plug-in room fresheners. I don't wear perfume or cologne either. BUT, my husband, on the other hand, loves fragrances in everything and wears men's cologne when he goes out (sometimes way too much).

Sometimes, I have to say diplomatically "Oh what's that you have on? " He has a legitimate problem though. He is a chemical engineer and has worked with chemicals for many years, hence he has lost much of his sense of smell.

However, he does get annoyed when I suggest that he has poured it on too heavily! .

Depends Some people put on their scent very heavy. That is a no no. What could happen is a person applies perfume or cologne, their nose gets used to the scent and they think the scent has worn off.In some cases they may reapply.

This can be a reason why they put on too much. I feel most people do not know how to apply a fragrance to their bodies. The following website has good tips on application.

beauty.about.com/od/behindthescent/qt/ap... A word about allergies: You may be super sensitive to fragrance and cannot have anyone who wears perfume around you. That being said, lets not think that everyone wears fragrance too heavy. You could be super sensitive.

It may only be one ingredient that sets you off. Your neighbor may have worn something that did not contain that ingredient. I ran into this situation performing a concert.

My stand partner was very sensitive and asked for me not to wear perfume. I said I will try, but it is part of my daily hygiene to wear perfume. I wore perfume.

Its a habit of mine to take a squirt. I would rather smell good than smell bad. For some people, cleaning their skin is just not enough.

I'm not sure if this is the case for me, but I'm not willing to take that chance either. I hope I shed some light on this issue for those who are allergic and those who wear perfume. I realize that we all have to exist together and breathe the same air.

I was just trying to see this issue from all sides. I hope this helps. Sources: my experience, about.com .

Perfume /cologne is not to be used as a marinade I, too, can not be around strong (and cheap) scents as they trigger migraines. So, when people marinate themselves I have to get away from them quickly. A scent, whether male or female, is best when its a bare note.It is meant to be enjoyed by one getting into the wearer's intimate zone..as in closer than in a normal conversation.

The closer you get, the more you smell it. Its another way to say "come hither" without saying a word. Only a dab behind the ears, inside the elbow, behind the knees and a little on the ankle will keep the fragrance at a detectable level but not to where it is overpowering.

I guess some people think more is best, but in this case, less is much better. When I smell someone's overpowering cologne I automatically assume they have an odor they are trying to cover up. Perfume is an accessory you choose for others. Yeah, you ladies in the mall elevator in 1986! You and your Giorgio (which was so overdone you all looked like you were in a fog...) You gave me a migraine.

One time in a seafood restaurant, the lady behind me had obviously dipped her whole entire body in an oil drum of Giorgio. The smell made me sick and tartar sauce came out of my nose. Bottom line, I don't think these heavy handed heathens can be taught to use fragrance the way it was intended.

Sad, sad, sad.

I know that perfume is the longest lasting in the fragrances. Is eau de toilette stronger than eau de cologne or weaker?

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
