Where's a good vacation spot when traveling with a 12 year old in Feb.?

Where's a good vacation spot when traveling with a 12 year old in Feb.? I'm looking for a great getaway for a 50-year-old mom and 12-year-old son. Would prefer to go someplace on the warm side (unless there are lots of things to do that aren't too vigorous...I am still recovering from a ski injury, so that limits our possibilities). It would be great if things were pretty centralized so we wouldn't have to spend most of our time driving around.

Would love it if there were a preteen meeting area or well-supervised, organized activities so my son could make friends. Does anyone know any well-kept secret locations? Recommendations on lodging and dining are welcome.

We do not have passports. Would like to keep it under $3,000 (way under if possible). Would go for about a week.

What about going on a Cruise.... You do not need to have your passports yet to go on a cruise, so that might be an option. Many cruiselines have programs for kids (I just finished planning a March cruise for myself, my fiancee, and his 10 year old daughter). And cruise prices are generally good, because nearly everything is included.

There are lots of different places that they go to in the Caribeean, so you’d have a variety of options. Plus, everything is right there in one place. We are taking a Carnival Cruise and they have Camp Carnival that has all kinds of activities for different age groups of kids.

carnival.com/onboardexp_home.aspx Royal Caribbean and Disney Cruise Lines also have lots of activities for kids. royalcaribbean.com/allaboutcruising/fami... disneycruise.disney.go.com/dcl/en_US/index Or, there is Orlando, of course. DisneyWorld and/or Universal Studios both are fun, and if you stay on site, you don’t really have to worry about driving much.

And the lodging rates are usually lower in February than in the summer. Or you could go to the California theme parks. Disney info: http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/index?bhcp=1 www.mousesavers.com Univeral info: http://www.universalorlando.com/?__source=rgmn.gnav The Tampa / Clearwater area is nice: warm weather, white sandy beaches, clear blue warm water.

Busch Gardens is in Tampa, and they have a pretty cool aquaruim from what I remember. You can go to www.travelzoo.com or www.travelocity.com or www.expedia.com or carnival.com/onboardexp_home.aspx0 to name but a few of the sites where you can usually find pretty good deals. And many of them also have vacation planning tools that help you find the vacation you want by choosing your destination or interest or packages, etc.But really, I think the cruise is the way to go: inexpensive, all-inclusive, lots of activites, no passport required.

I know these places aren’t really hidden gems or anything, but all of them would most likely be under your budget and fun. I hope that helps some. Sources: my opinion .

Orlando is nice and warm in February, they have lodging available on site. Every kind of restaurant you could imagine...I think 12 would be the perfect age for a boy to discover Epcot. He's just at the age to appreciate and remember it.

It should be easy for him to met other kids his age at the hotel. After all, it is a kids dream vacation..

Link to Yogi - Check out the "Three Bears Lodge"! Not sure where you live, but there's a Yogi Bear Resort in Warrens, WI that has great lodges and lots of entertainment for kids that's not too badly priced depending on when you go and were you live. Lots of fun activities, great place!

There's an indoor waterpark, and an outlet mall pretty close by for you to have some fun too! Sources: jellystonewarrens.com/ .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
