Many Groupon clones are success already. Even our Daily deal site is quite popular now here in TX . We Purchased Source code of Wroupon and Developed our own awesome daily deals .
One of the best UK deal websites I've come across is TopTownDeals.com.
Check out citydealboard.com to see a bunch of group deals in your city.
There is one site which is doing well and giving good deals groupoff.com.
Here are more than 10 Groupon clones just in Spain! cultureslurp.com/2010/07/08/spain-goes-gro..
For bar and restaurant specific deals in SF - Liquor. Com is offering higher end deals they call the "Editor's Deals.
Good list offered. The thing to note is that although there have been a quite a few copycats, they have done a relatively poor job thus far. Livingsocial was able to capitalize on its existing network, but otherwise the 'copy paste' has not been effective.

GotoGroupBuy isn't really a Groupon copy cat because they don't really do the same thing. It's more like a D.I.Y. Group buy site just like how eBay is a D.I.Y.Auction site. It lets you start group buys for anything you want, whereas, Groupon decides what to do a group buy on and only lets you choose from what they offer.
Another big difference is that GotoGroupBuy is free and Groupon charges the merchant/business a big commission.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
