I like to vote 'good' for the most part... My ’great’ votes are reserved for an answer that just 'knocks my sox off'...whether it’s a fantastic idea about how to do something...or an answer directly from the heart and soul...'Great' just has to be outstanding. Good seems to cover 95% of my votes...just because that’s what they are, ’good’....some thought, some info...an honest opinion...just all around ’good’. Okay is reserved for short, one liners with little thought or effort.

The other two vote I only use for disgusting, inappropriate...and I use them VERY seldom. For me, it’s the ’do unto others’ concept. The other day I got a vote that deducted 8 coins from my stash.(Not a tragedy but a surprise).

It was a stupid question....I thought the asker just had a sense of humor and was being funny. The other 3 answerers also answered in the same tone or theme....correctly, but the obvious and only answer it could be. I got a bad vote.

Why? Who knows. I suppose, where we are dealing with folks from all walks of life, all different personalities and quirks...most will be fair and appreciate your effort...and some will feel the need to 'slap your hand'.

Maybe it gives them a feeling of power and superiority, being anonymous, to be able to be nasty or 'vote tough'. Hurtfeelings, I have learned from experience to answer questions submitted by people who are fair and honest...I'll give any newbie a chance...and I avoid people who tend to be unfriendly and hurtful. I'm here for friendship and enjoyment so I avoid those who like to 'repremand' and argue, fight and insult.

I'm so glad to say that 99% of our community are fantastic people. Just give them a chance. You'll see.

Well, it's not easy to get greats, and goods can be hard to get, too. Okay and good are kind of the "average" rating here. I looked at some of your answers, and would encourage you to write a bit more when you answer a question.

Alot of people rate answers on how hard it appears you have worked at it; how much effort you have applied when answering. If someone just writes one sentence and someone else writes several paragraphs with sources and gives some solid info, the person who writes the longer answer is probably going to get a "good" rating and the one sentence answerer will probably get an "okay" at the best. Add just a short summary in the first line, and make sure your real answer is in the box below.

I think most of us try to be fair at our ratings; what would be the point if everyone got "great" on their answers, especially when you see the range of answers that are given? More effort is rewarded with higher ratings, usually. It's just like school. There are some "teachers" who are easy graders, and others who are tougher.

It's an individual thing. But most have expressed a preference for extra effort means higher ratings. Let your personality shine through, in a positive way, of course, and that will get you higher ratings.

Try to give personal examples about whatever topic you are answering. There are always a few people who don't play fairly, but we really don't have to many of them. Keep trying, and I'm sure you will do better!

Hmmm. Big question. I'll do my best.

I haven’t found too many questioners that are stingy withtheir votes, outside of those people that just NEVER even bother to come back and vote. I’ve gotten stung a few times recently because a question didn’t have enough answerers to give me a good or great rating during voting, while the questioner never even came back to vote. Here’s one very good example of what I’m referring to.

askville.amazon.com/askville/AnswerViewe... If answer doesn’t get at least two good votes,it’s destined to be an okay rating,as outlined here, under experience ponts. askville.amazon.com/askville/faq.html The other reason, and this doesn’t happen very often on Askville, people are "gaming" the system, meaning they’re voting unfavorably on answers that they are in the running against. If you suspect tht has happened to you, report voting abuse by clicking the report abuse link in the question and selecting voting abuse.

I checked and I don't think I have given you any grades. But if I had... I have only been doing Askville for a couple weeks but in that time I have come up with some personal rules for grading other people answers. In that time I have answered 38 questions and given 144 grades to other answers.

I do not generally give 'Great' grades to answers unless the contributor really went above and beyond to write a really good answer. I find myself giving a lot of 'Good' or 'OK' grades. On the other hand I have only given one 'Awful' for an answer that was just really bad.

But for answers that are one liners, or just copied from Wikipedia or another source, I will give a 'Weak' grade pretty readily. I feel that is just gaming the system and not contributing to the purpose of Askville. Just my personal rules. It will be interesting to see other's perspectives on this question!

I noticed that too.. it's weird.. hmm.. not sure. That's a Good question! It's not like these "quest coins" come outta THEIR pockets or something huh?!

Maybe because their answers are poor and don't earn them too many coins, and so they tend to vote others low also? I dunno.. I asked a question once.. and ALL 4 people gave me Great answers, and so I voted ALL 4 "Great" answers! ::shrugs:: Sources: opinion macmac's Recommendations I Love Ashville T-shirt .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
