They can multitask but when they are on the railroad job they have to focus all their energy on the railroad for the railroad to operate safely.... I am sure you heard about my friend Robert Sanchez.. In the big LA Train wreck, when he was texting on his phone to other railfans... Just that one second as an engineer cost him and over dozens of others their life. Now the Railroad Conductor is the Engineer's boss... on some railroads on others the conductor functions nearly the same as the engineer like in subway systems. I applied to the Wisconsin and Southern Railroad company in year 1999 for the position of railroad conductor.. I got up to my first interview date then was turned down because I do not have a drivers licence.
They wanted me to have this for at least one other year and 1 years work experience in another job to prove that I am a responsible person, although they already know that I am.. They just needed some form of paper trail of proof... I know from that experience a railroad conductor has to have good interpersonal skills, Be healthy enough to lift over 50 lbs, be able to pass a psychology test, and be prepared to work 10-12 hours a day and on call within 2 hrs daily... In all weather... Their jobs including switching trains, throwing switches, signalling, giving orders to the engineer, as well as paper work, working well with dispatch etc, filing paper work, planning of trips, which tracks are safe to use, plans for train troubles, and how to take proper action should something go wrong, . Inspection the train.. keeping an eye out for problems on the tracks...etc. When you are a railroad conductor you need to be 100% focused on your railroad job, and not distracted as the multitasking of the railroad is very hard job and 10-12 hrs on your feet.. along makes them very prone to fatigue... They also have to make sure that everything they are doing follows the rules of the Federal Railroad Administration, and that alone can be a very difficult task. I have more articles than to post in the source box collected in that blog to give both good and bad examples of multitasking railroaders.. I always wanted to work for the railroad.. That has been my dream passion and goal all my life.
But, I can not do so at this time.. Praying my ankle injury from last years totally heals up soon.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
