First off congrats on your AR! Firearms and the 2nd amendment must be one of the most misunderstood, misrepresented, and disrespected things in the United States. The same could be said about firearm owners themselves.
Now before going off on some of my own opinions on this subject I would strongly suggest that people anti gun and pro gun get their facts and arguments from UNBIASED sources. Sources likes www.FBI.gov , and other crime databases. I like your point of un-inventing the atomic bomb, as no one can uninvent the firearm.
Just as you pointed out the sales of these certain weapons have risen, according to gunsandammo there has been 1.5 million ar15 rifles alone produced in the last five years. So what will an assault rifle/weapon ban do? With literally millions of these mislabeled "assault rifles" already on the market and in possession of civilians all around the country, the desired effect of such a ban is unrealistic, and even stretches the capabilities of any written law.
Even in the UK and Australia where there are gun bans and some of the strictest firearm laws in the world, there are still violent crimes committed with firearms. What can a ban or any law truly do? If certain firearms were to be banned and every firearm is restricted to a maximum capacity of ten rounds and there is another shooting.
Instead of 26 killed there is 15 or 10 or 5 killed are people going to stand up and say well that's OK it could have been worse..Is that morally right? No laws or bans should be the solution to violence, firearm related or not. What the ban will do is directly effect law abiding citizens, first most semi automatic rifles will be banned or heavily altered mainly in appearance.
Now most firearm related murders are not carried out with rifles, although some mass shootings are among the worst they don't make up that much of a percentage of firearm related deaths/murders. Handguns are mainly used in firearm related murders, for instance in 2010 Utah had 16 murders with handguns involved and 0 with rifles according to www.fbi.gov which is an official site of the U.S. government, U.S. Department of Justice. This trend of firearms used in murders is similar with all states, so what does this mean?
In my opinion it means an assault weapons ban won't have much effect on public safety/crime rates if any. In fact In Australia firearm bans and strong gun control has lead to higher crime rates overall, the same is seen around Europe. If no one believes that, don't take my word for it do a little research and see for yourself.
No one should take in the feeling of comfort and safety in disarming fellow law abiding citizens. If some one is breaking in through the front door in the middle of the night with a crowbar and a baseball bat, I would be grabbing one of my firearms even if they weren't armed. I would say heightened security and fighting fire with fire may be the only true effective answer as of now.
How many people would rather have even the chance for one person to be armed amongst all the people during a mass shooting? Whether they are a trained officer or a trained CCW, is one person being armed worse than the alternative? So to get back to your question, sorry for the rant.
Is the "Assault rifle ban a reality?" I wouldn't say its realistic at all, there are non firearm mass murders carried out in the world today. As far as an assault weapons ban I believe it is the cheapest, fastest, easiest, most misguided and useless response to violence such as mass shootings.
Laws and bans definitely aren't the best solutions they're just guide lines that have never stopped an evil persons free will.
Banning large capacity magazines would neuter certain firearms, but it would take a generation or more to make a difference. Banning certain firearms seems like overkill if the point is to reduce the number of rounds fired. The point here is to ban ALL firearms, or like in some of our more retarded states passing laws that will leave the right to a medical abortion 'legal', but make it impossible for any woman of modest means to get one.
Meanwhile I'm working on a better, more compact and less expensive 'atkimic' bomb.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
