In some ways, The USA is still living in the shadow of the Cold war. Some Americans have an irrational fear of a slippery slope effect where the state keeps getting more and more powerful until it is out of control. Ironically, what we have in the USA and china is Corporations and the uber rich with so much power that they are the ones out of control and the true threat to democracy.
Norway has the highest standard of living on the planet, and yes, it is a democracy with strong social safety net, more or less socialism, but part of the reason they are doing so well is because they have a lot of oil wealth and a small population to distribute that wealth to. Personally, I think There needs to be a balance. Not all power should be given to the state, but we should have some reasonable social safety nets(like health care, and more money fo College combined with reforms to bring down costs would be good) , and the people who prosper the most economically should be the ones who pay the most back into the country.
However, I don't think the state should do everything, and I don't think people should expect a free handout.
They are scared because it is apparent that the current leaders for America do not know how to run a socialist society. I haven't seen France limiting soda and sugary treats while shoving the addictive substance in the food. They actually watch what their people consume and ban harmful additives.
We are in a country that is putting poisons in the foods and then punishing everyone for consuming it. That is just an example by the way. It is in light of the Bloomberg rant.
Lol.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
