It takes me 2 hours to fall asleep then I wake up 2-4 hours later and then can't go back to sleep for like 1hour. I have heard of insomnia but idk what that is exactly. This has been going on for years, so I just can't get any sleep.

I have a similar problem. If it's a medical problem only a Doc can tell for sure exactly what is causing it and how to deal with it, and he may need to run some test to find out. Insomnia is an inability to get to sleep.

What you describe does not really soung like insomnia. I've had insomnia since but in the last few years even when I get to sleep I often wake up a couple of times per night. For me I think their are two causes.1) I've developed a snoring problem and I think that I actually wake myself up sometimes.2) Every morning at about 2:30 a train comes through our town blowing it's horn.

Even tho it's a half mile from the house I still hear it and it wakes me up. Also, our neighbors dogs wake me up a couple of times per week. So my point it that is could be medical or environmental.In addition to seeing a doctor you may want to pay attention and see if there are any environmental disturbances that are keeping you up.

Double pane windows will reduce outside sounds as will thick curtains. You may enve want to wear some sort of sound suppressors in your ears at night or get one of those "sound conditioners" that maintain a low soothing sound to mask other sounds during the night. Whatever the case, good luck with finding a way to cope with it.

I thought I was the only one. I even take Ambien and wake up 2-4 hours after I take it.At least it puts me to sleep or at best relaxes me. Please Askvillers help us with ideas.
