I have a wireless router that I use in my home. I live on a court, and there are a couple other wireless connections that I am seeing show up on my "view wireless networks" list. A lot of times, another connection that has a much lower bar count than my router is selected as my wireless source, sometimes even after it has selected my home router.
It will go from my home router, which is a solid 5 bar connection, to the lower connection, usually at 1 bar.It is annoying because I always have to go in manually and change it back to my router. Also, I have tried deleting it from the list, but it still pops back up. Does anyone know how to lock in a router when I know I am going to be around my home without messing up the connectivity when I go out?
Any help is appreciated! Thanks! Asked by bryanz 53 months ago Similar questions: laptop select wireless connection signal strength home wifi router fixed Consumer Electronics > Cell Phones & Accessories.

Change your settings You should be able to set a particular network as the preferred network, and do not allow your pc to connect to any other networks. You didn't mention whether you use a MAC or a Windows pc. On the Windows: - Network Connections (in your control panel) - there should be a tab called "Wireless Networks".... - there's a window that displays networks in range.
You can use the REMOVE button to permanently remove and never connect to stray networks. You can also order the networks in range so that you connect to them in a particular order.
Actually, there are two issues here... First, it is a really good idea to protect your wireless router by using a "key" (WEP) of your choice, in addition to giving it a name (SSID). Read the instruction manual provided with your router. You don't want your router to have "default" as name and "open access" as protection level (out of the box).
If you don't configure your router properly, anyone in the close neighborhood can share your Internet connection -- accidentally or maliciously. Second, your laptop's wireless network adapter scans for available "access points" in the vicinity. (Being seen is okay, while being connected to is not.
That's why the first issue above. ) You want it to use specifically your own router by moving its name to the top of the list, selecting it, and entering the security key. Basically, you need to configure both your router and every computer in the house that shares your single DSL or Cable Modem line.

Ok Ready... Right Click on the local area connection at the lower right hand of your desktop (the icon of the two computers) select open network connections; a window will open with all available connections; right click on your local connection (it can be identified with your router's manufacturer...i. E linksys wireless, 3com gigabit, whatever yours is. Then click properties a new window will open.
Labeled wireless nework connection properties, under this connection uses the following items box, click on internet protocol (tcp/IP); once highlighted click on properties which can be seen right under this selection box; again a new window will open labeled internet protocol (tcp/ip) properties, check off the Use the following IP address, which will open up ip address, subnet mask, and default gateway fields. Ok keep that window open, but to get the ip info you will have to go to start (the lower left hand corner of your desktop) then run, type in the dialog box "ipconfig" , (without the quotes). It will bring up a black menu with various information looks confusing but what you want is you the info that is labeled ip address, subnet mask, and default gateway.
Its all there simply scroll down and find it. Now type in the correct info in the above window we kept open when we first started. What you want to tell the computer is use this connection and none other.
The info within your run ipconfig is your network connection address, specific to your computer and connection. After you type this info into the appropriate fields hit ok and restart the computer. Once restarted it should only connect to that connection and none other within reach.
Hope this helps if you have any questions send me a question and I can help good luck best matt .
Manage it manually In my experience, none of the various wireless "find the best router" programs (including the one built into Windows) works very well. I'd suggest setting it up so that you always have to choose what wireless router to connect to. This means you will have to select one when you are out but it should prevent your system from switching off your home router..

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
