Why does my left arm go numb all the way to the fingers with simple use like talking on phone or resting it on a chair?

Why does my left arm go numb all the way to the fingers with simple use like talking on phone or resting it on a chair . This has been happening for over a month. Simply resting it on the arm of a chair produceses this effect.
