You need to limit the number of programs running at startup Unfortunately most new computers come with many programs that run when you start your computer. It is very easy to stop these programs from running automatically. Click Start --> Run --> Type MSCONFIG and click "OK".

Go to the startup tab and just uncheck those programs that don't need to be running at startup. Don't worry about unchecking too many items...you can always enable them again. You will see an amazing speedup in you PC..

Clutter of applications The Most likely reason is a clutter of application functions that are causing the newer computer to operate more slowly. You do not mention the processor speed on the older computer, or any technical details which makes any specific answer very difficult to give. Try taking a look at the task manager on the newer machine, see how many tasks are running and how much memory is being used.

The most likely culprit as I said is a clutter of utility programs using virtually all of your actual ram forcing the newer system to swap to disk for memory, this is a huge drag on performance.

Older computers ran just enough to get the job done, newer computers have all the bells and whistles Windows 95 was designed for the computers of its time. Newer versions of Windows (XP / Vista) are designed for computers that will be available (for example the Vista OS has a fancy graphics system which even currently new computers can not run). The OS is doing More and More fancy things that are nice, but just not always needed.

Another issue is spyware and the overuse of 'Stay Resident' applicaitons (mostly found on in the task bar near the clock) - everything from your printer to your MP3 players install these apps and have them run all the time, using your computer's resources. Sources: My Opinion .

Memory Maybe you have less memory than you really need, try closing some services or go and buy an extra Gb.

1 Kliebor, regarding your answer "Clutter of applications": He/she doesn't mention the CPU but is a 10 year old computer! The best one processor he/she can have is an AMD K6-2 @ 500Mhz maybe with 512 Mb of RAM .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
