Why would a crimson barberry bush attract flies? How do you get rid of the flies and not kill the bush?

It must be giving off an odor that is attracting the bugs - or there might be a dead mouse nearby, or animal feces. This might not be suitable where you live, but for some people the best way to get rid of flies - is with pet chickens or ducks!

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
