It's probably easier on tile than it is on paint. You are talking about the style that simply uses it's own force to stay in place? I've seen tension rods do a fine job marring paint jobs in bathrooms (literally peeling the paint from the wall).

But I would think that any residue left behind on tile would be able to be removed with the proper product/elbow grease. If you were planning to drill into the tile to hang a rod - that should be done with the proper care to avoid breaking the tile, but otherwise I should think a tension rod would not pose a threat to tile that's been properly installed and set, but that's just my two cents. I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
