Will getting a female dog spayed in the middle of her heat cycle take her out of heat?

Similar questions: female dog spayed middle heat cycle.

All I have ever heard is that a female dog should have at least one litter of puppies before the procedure is done, or you will have a dog that is puppy like all her life.

Yes, it will stop the heat cycle, but it is more complicated and dangerous to have her spayed while she is in heat, and consequently, more expensive. Call your vet to discuss this, but my suggestion is that you wait it out. You can have her spayed shortly after the cycle is over, (the earlier the better, if you think or know that she mated.) And to tickles, no, a female dog does not need to have a litter before you spay her!

Spaying before the first pregnancy will absolutely not make her "puppy-like" for the rest of her life! Actually, spaying has positive health benefits for the dog, not to mention preventing even more unwanted puppies. Somebody badly misinformed you...Katherine .

Thank you Katherine. "Bella" actually has an appointment tomorrow morning to be spayed. When I called my vets office to schedule the appt I did tell them that she was in heat but didn't ask any other questions.

Great! Thanks for letting me know! I bet you will be surprised at how peppy she is tomorrow.

Give her a hug for me (tomorrow. ) She is a lucky girl, to have a responsible mom who loves herKat .

I sure hope she feels alot peppier tomorrow then what she does now. I havent seen this sad of a look on her face since I rescued her from her old abusive home. I will definitly give her all kinds of hugs and lovins probably for the next few weeks to try and make up for today.

I'm sure she will appreciate all that extra attention! She probably still has some anesthesia in her system, feels strange, and doesn't know why. I assume she got a pain shot afterwards, and maybe some pain meds to take home, too?

As I said, it is more complicated to spay when in heat, because everything is swollen, and it is surgery, after all. But she will feel much better tomorrow. Tonight, she is tucked in for sleep, which is what she needs.

:)But you don't have to make up for anything! You rescued her, and did what was necessary to protect her from the stresses of unwanted pregnancies! You are a good mom!

Kat .

Thank you Kat for all of your helpful info :) Bella is doing ALOT better this evening. She actually has been jumping on and off my bed claiming back her usual spot and following me everywhere once again. Yes they gave her a pain shot afterwards and sent her home with medicine to take daily for the next few days.

She doesn't seem to be bothered by the incision or the stitches at all though... which is good. I was worried that she might chew or lick on them repeatidly. Thank you once again :)Jennifer jleann1001 1 month ago .

So glad to hear that Bella is feeling better! Dogs and cats usually bounce back from surgery a lot faster than humans who have had comparable surgeries do! I am so glad everything went well!

Take care,Katherine .

Yes it would, they remove the uterus, but the hormones will take a little longer to subside. It's also more expensive to have a dog spayed while she is in heat. It is best to wait until her heat cycle is over, just keep her inside and safe from any males.

You can put a pair of your panties on her, just cut a hole for her tail, that will keep blood drops from soiling your floors etc. Take her out to toilet only on a leash and watch very carefully for male dogs, they can mount in a blink of an eye, and its too dangerous to try to separate them once they've tied. Sorry, but what tickles said is untrue, there is NO reason for a dog to have a litter before spaying, in fact she'll have much less of a chance of getting breast or uterine cancer if she is spayed before having puppies. Spaying before a litter will NOT make her a puppy all her life, thats all old wives tales.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
