Will the Vermillion Rig be the next Deepwater Horizon?
First of all, I want to say that the Vermillion Rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico is another tragedy which I was hoping wouldn't happen after what everyone went through with the BP explosion. The question on whether or not the oil will infiltrate the ocean is a good one and one that must be addressed quickly. I believe that after all the efforts were made to take care of the BP spill and finally getting results in stopping it, that this time around it will be better contained.
Will some oil infiltrate the ocean? I believe that it would be virtually impossible for ALL of the oil to be contained immedietly. But this should be a much quicker process to contain the spill and hopes of avoiding future problems of such magnitude.
It appears to be a much smaller problem. However, it may not be. The sheen of oil is already a mile long.It is much shallower; however, last year's huge disaster in Australia was in shallow water and took 3 months to close.
It is mostly natural gas, but Russian offshore natural gas disasters have sometimes lasted years. As if there were not already enough evidence, this is one more kick in the head telling us that drilling for oil and gas offshore is insanely dangerous and should be stopped entirely immediately.
The fire broke out Thursday morning, forcing all 13 crew members off the rig and into the water. They were later picked up by an oil services boat. No injuries were reported.
The offshore oil production facility, known as Vermillion Block 380, is in 340 feet of water. In contrast, the sea at the Deepwater Horizon rig is a mile deep. If a leak is detected at the Vermillion rig, the relative shallow water would make response and repair efforts significantly easier than were experienced at the Deepwater Horizon rig.
The facility is owned by Mariner Energy Inc. , an independent oil and gas exploration and production company based in Houston.
I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
