With the Holidays soon upon us, I was wondering if anyone ever started a Holiday Tradition?

Whether it is with friends, family, coworkers, etc…, even if it is one you want to startI started one many years ago. A couple friends and I always ask some of the Active Duty service men and women, that don’t have family in the area, out for Thanksgiving Dinner, and fun. Another one is, some buddies and I go do our Christmas shopping, for what we can, on Christmas Eve.

Admittedly, it may involve planning sessions at a couple of pubs, but we have a good time, and come up with some… different gifts. How about you? Asked by Frognw 50 months ago Similar questions: Holidays wondering started Holiday Tradition Society > Holidays.

My wife and I have a Christmas Eve, Eve tradition that always makes us both cry. We have our big Christmas dinner at my mother’s house on Christmas Eve and we also exchange most of our gifts on Christmas Eve. On the evening before Christmas Eve when I am already cooking and baking like a mad man we each open one special gift that we got for each other.

We pick the gift that the other will open and it is always the most special and personal gift that we have either made or bought. For example, my wife had lost her favorite childhood picture of our son and was devastated by it. I searched and searched until I found it but I didn’t give it to her or tell her that I had found it.

I sent it off (they sent it back when they were finished with it) and had a Christmas tree ornament made with that picture on it. After she opened it and cried I gave her the original picture back. The gifts that we open early like that are usually not very expensive but they are VERY meaningful and we take that time for ourselves every year just before things get really hectic.

Well, my dad really hates shopping... My dad really hates shopping. Like, really, really hates it. It's kind of a miracle that my mom ever got a present "from Santa" before my sister and I got old enough to shop/the Internet. So my sister and I have started a kind of bonding tradition.

Whenever we both get home (we really started this when she started college), we get together and plan buying mom's big gift (from dad) and her stocking. Then we go shopping to get the stuff. We have a lot of fun, plus on Christmas day we get to stuff her stocking and hang it up and pretend to be Santa which is really fun.

On Christmas Day, after my family is done calling family and opening presents, we all settle down to watch a DVD (it used to be video) that someone got for Christmas. Those who are cooking, watch half-heartedly from the kitchen. It's not an emotional tradition, but we do it every year. We started this when my sister got the Matrix for Christmas and I had not seen it and really wanted to.

Somehow, it just keeps going. Last year we officially recognized it as one of our Christmas traditions. Also on CD after all the family stuff is done, I pull out my phone list and carefully call all my best friends.

I started doing it when I was really young (and we wanted to compare gifts), but now I do it because I see them so rarely, it's really nice to get to wish everyone a happy holiday and make promises to call and talk a lot more later that we only kind of keep..

Tradition My husband and got married july 06 and last yr and this year we do toys for tots we spend about 300.00 on toys, bikes for toys for tots . I think that everyone should be able to have gifts under the tree or just gifts in general and its not the kids fault their parents can not afford them. I think that My husband and I are together this yr for christmas Im sure we will invite some guys for his unit over for christmas dinner.

Thats wonderful to hear frognw that your friends invite the service members, They really need that extra support like that.. Video my husband is a marine and we do this each year Video USMC toys for tots Video Toys for Tots .

I have a few. Each Halloween I watch a good horror movie with the lights out. It's usually a classic and often black and white.

For Thanksgiving we invite single students who can't make it home to come feast with us. We make the turkey, and they all bring simple side dishes. The night of Thanksgiving I declare Christmas season has begun, and I bring out all the decorations and the tree.

I hang ornaments and garlands everywhere. My husband traditionally tries to stop me. Then, we have our traditional "when does Christmas start" discussion.

Sometimes I wait a few more days. Others I just go for it, and he kids me for my decorating. It's all in fun!

Every December 31st/January 1st at midnight I kiss my hubby! Every Valentine's day we agree that we spent enough on Christmas so we just hug each other instead. Each St. Patrick's I search my husband for some green clothing.

If he has none I pinch him! The day after Easter I buy Reese's Peanut Butter Eggs in a large quantity and store them in the freezer for any month up to September when Halloween Candy are on sale again. These are my traditions I have started with my wonderful husband.

I hope to make many more...

I cant seem to find any good sites on Jewish holidays. " "What do you want most for Christmas/ the holidays?" "Family and the holidays - Are you having a bunch of people coming over for the holidays and dread it? " "How many Christian holidays are presumed to correlate with holidays or celebrations of other religions?

" "does the holidays being over depress you a little? If so what are you doing about it? " "Why is eggnog only sold during the christmas holidays?

" "Happy Holidays, Everyone!" "HAPPY HOLIDAYS" ..........?" "Ok the holidays are over, where is everyone at? " "Name a holiday tradition.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
