LED TVs are going to be much more power efficient, helping both your wallet and the planet. On top of that, LED TVs don't have mercury in them, again good for the planet. LED TVs also are "instant-on", whereas conventional LCD tvs need to "warm up" to get to their full brightness.
Additionally, LED TVs are *super* thin, so they are easier to mount on a wall, a stand, or just to have people gawk at when they walk past it. The picture quality isn't really that different between a conventional LCD TV and an LED TV. So while LED TVs might be slightly more expensive now, they are a much more sound investment in your future, as well as the future of the rest of us!
Rubygrrl brought up some great points. Ultimately, both are great tvs. If you want the instant on/thin features, go LED. If those don't matter, go LCD and save some money!
