Would you like to be able to archive your Askville Inbox messages to your local computer?

I have many older PMs from Askville friends that I cherish. I would like to keep them. Someday, if I can't easily transfer them to my local computer, they will most likely be lost.

The Askville Inbox has two big limitations. While it appears to keep all of our messages, we don't know for how long, and it only allows us to view several hundred of our most recent messages at one time.To access old ones that have fallen off the visible list, we must delete the newer, visible ones. Inbox archiving hasn't made it to the top of the Askville updates list yet.

Let's speak up and see if they can hear us! - Would you like Askville to add a feature that would allow you to save your PMs to your local computer? - Do you have a particular format preference for such a save (e.g. , e-mail, text, HTML)?

- Would you like it to include sorting features so that you could selectively archive your messages? Asked by Persnicula 45 months ago Similar questions: archive Askville Inbox messages local computer Amazon > Askville.

Yes, in fact, I would! There are messages—and information in messages—that I’s like to hang on to, but I don’t have a good format for information retrieval for. Right now, copy and pasting into a word document is it, and later recovery is poor. It’s a sloppy way to do it.

I’d love to be able to email items from my inbox to my regular email address (where I have categorized folder storage) or download them to a folder on my computer or SOMETHING! (Actually, I’d like to do that with a bunch of question-related information, too! I suppose I could print things out to archive—but it would EAT supplies, and I have too much paper, now—I am a BIG fan of electronic archiving.

Please, Askville, Please! Some ability to let us save this information would be great! It certainly... ...would be a nice option. I don’t often go back to my PMs but I can see that folks might want to save them. Personally, I prefer to save answers that I think are especially well-done, and I do that by cutting and pasting into Word.

If I were to save them, text would be satisfactory. And I would like sorting features on existing PMs - that would be helpful. On another note, I would like a way to search for other Askvillers, I can’t put everyone as a Fave or a Friend - that makes those lists unwieldy - but sometimes I want to contact someone.

YES! I actually think the inbox needs a few revamping features. To answer your question I would love some method of archiving my PMs to my local computer.

I'm less concerned about format. I have some cherished friends here. We have shared stories, knowledge, experience, and even jokes with each other.

With some of these, I have copied and pasted the PM into Word, but it's really inefficient. I would love some way to pull them onto my hard drive and keep them organized as Askville PMs. Currently, I have to page down through my PMs to find anything, and if I reach the end of what I'm allowed to see, I have to consider going through and deleting some in hopes of being able to find the message I'm seeking.

The PM feature is terribly slow as it is, and we can only delete one message at a time. Heaven help us if we want to refer back to something we have sent. It takes forever to open the sent tab.

There isn't any indication about how many of our hidden PMs are still there. I don't even know if some of the ones I want to keep are still in existence. I certainly can find better, more enjoyable ways to spend my time rather than opening one message at a time to see if I want to delete it, selecting delete then starting the slow process over again. In addition, I would love a couple of other features.

I wish the reply feature would contain at least a portion of the original message. Many people copy and paste the original message into their reply. This is handy, but cumbersome.

Frequently, I'll get a reply to something I sent, but have no idea to which PM it refers or what I wrote. Then I begin the time consuming process of moving over to my sent tab, waiting for it to open, scanning down the messages I sent and opening several to play a guessing game. Some sort of forwarding feature would be great too.

I receive a number of PMs that I would like to pass along to someone but end up cutting and pasting into a new message. Again, it's cumbersome and inefficient. Why or why isn't there some way to forward questions or PMs to more than one person at a time?

If I see a question I think might be of interest to 10 people, I have to start and proceed with the process 10 times. Ugh! Sometimes I don't make it through all 10.

Now, with all of that, I do understand the gang in charge has loads of projects and maintenance responsibilities. My ideas are not so much a complaint, but just ideas. We can only expect so much at a time.

I think the folks in charge generally do an incredible job and I feel awfully lucky to be able to be here and enjoy what we have. Mamasunotheremuch's Recommendations Efficiency Expert Amazon List Price: $9.99 Used from: $1.73 Average Customer Rating: 3.5 out of 5 (based on 2 reviews) .

I think private message system in Askville can be and should be improved! I would like to be able to save them in my own computer. It is a good idea, however I would like to forward it to my other email address if possible.

I usually don't keep much in my PC. I keep almost everything online. However I don't think they give us the ability to forward our messages to our regular emails so I stick to your idea.

I prefer to save them in text format. We can't have anything but text in our private messages and text format would be fine for me. I would like to be able to sort my messages, put them in different folders, delete some of them at once.

I would like to see it faster. It is usually VERY slow! You should wait for months to see your messages!

1 IMDb. Com has the choice to forward your PMs to your email address. The user just clicks the link after they have read the message if they want to keep it, and IMDb sends it.It's great.

I would LOVE the same thing to happen here. Excellent suggestion Persnicula! Please Askville!

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
