Your spouse commits a heinous crime in 1969, at age 20. You just discover evidence of this in 2009, which you turn over to the police. The wheels of justice turn slowly, and, though you prompt them, the PD has little manpower to apply to this case.

Your spouse hasn't been involved in any criminal activity that you know of for the last 40 years. Your children would be devastated to discover their father is a criminal of the worst sort. You fear some of them may commit suicide-- especially the one who bears his father's name.

What do you do? Do you keep trying to push the police to run your spouse's fingerprints? Asked by marneymagic 23 months ago Similar questions: spouse commits heinous crime 1969 age 20 discover evidence 2009 turn Politics & Law > Crime.

I think my obligation stops at providing the information to the police. What they choose to do with the information, and whether they decide to investigate, charge and prosecute is up to them. The onus of seeing justice is done rests on their shoulders now.

If you press them, it will make your claims less objective and they might decide to forgo the investigation completely, thinking you might have some ulterior motive for seeing him prosecuted and imprisoned.

No, Don't push the police, but get urgent help from a counselor,BEFORE things get worse. The crime was obviously so bad that you turned the spouse over to the police,-with his agreement,I hope! But if you fear that some of the children could commit suicide when they find out, if they already haven't, you should seek help immediately.. also the time the police takes might give you also enough time to find a new place to live.

People around you will react ( which is very, very sad ) strange and get hostile if the crime was worse. So don't push, get a counselor and try to find a new place to live,- this is what I would do. It's up to you.

Good luck and take care .

Do the civic duty of giving the police department (the local one) the information. If they don't want to pursue it, who am I to tell them otherwise? For all I know, they already arrested, tried, and executed someone for that crime and as far as they're concerned, there is nothing in what I just gave them..

If it's real I'd advise you talk to the police in the "Place of Occurrence",which is, of course, the jurisdiction in which the alleged crime allegedly occurred...If you came to me with this story I believe I'd be able to determine the courseof action to be taken within 3 questions... That should be the case, as well, with the police you talk with, be it the Chief, some other supervisor or one of the Detectives if the department is large enough to have such personnel...If the police are performing unsatisfactorily you should contact the appropriateDistrict Attorney's Office...If you're writing a novel, I'm sure I'm not the only Law Enforcement person here -somebody ought to want to consult - I'd recommend you use someone 'local'so that you get the 'inside baseball' nuances that make a good novel better...

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
