AotD Contest: Input required?

I love the idea of this contest coming back. The Answer of the Day contest was what taught me how to answer questions here. I have a few suggestions; 1.

I think everyone should only be able to nominate themselves. - This will allow and encourage newbies to submit their own answers and good or bad they will learn by trial and error if they have to what is a best answer here among the best of the best answers - This also eliminates any need to look for an answer to nominate. - This could also eliminate any need to put a time limit on what answers can be nominated having any answer given at any time be open to be submitted.

- This also eliminates any need to split any winnings. Mahalo Pack? Can't be split anyway.2.

I like the idea of adding to the team tipping pot as an entry fee. 3. Requirement to vote should be removed.

- I feel if you enter the contest you should be prohibited from voting. - Allow the readers to vote on the answers they feel should win. The AotD creates the inner crowd so I do not know how that will be avoided.

Hopefully the inner crowd just grows exponentially with each new day the contest runs. Some folks will enter every day and they will just naturally become the new "inner crowd" combined with what is left of the old inner crowd. The time and early posting.

This is tough to solve effectively and keep consistent play. I found that the keys to getting people to play the game the AotD had to be visible on the Mahalo Answers front page (when the "mahalo chatter" filter started the AotD just died that day) and the AotD had to be posted at a consistent and regular time so if we are going to have a solid group of players that play frequently we are going to have to post the contest at the same time every day... which will allow for the early entry advantage. I do not see a way around that.

Whatever happens I hope this contest is a success this time around like it was summer '09 :).

Brilliant idea to bring it back! The AotD contest was a boon to newbies and older established members alike!

I think that's a brilliant idea to bring it back. When it was out before, I was a newer user at this site and didn't participate very much. I like the idea of trying to include everyone. It might be hard to find answers just from the previous day, maybe make it 2 days.

I can't wait for it to come back.

To solve this one: - People posting their nomination early used to have an advantage, I would like to avoid that advantage. Simply make the nomination process blind until the voting starts. Suppose the nominations for tuesday's contest open at 12:01 tuesday morning.(LA time.) Then they close at 23:59 tuesday evening.

(midnight is a bad idea, as it doesn't belong to either day. ) Collect all the nominations: merge the duplicates and open the question for voting at 12:01 wednesday morning. Voting ends at 23:59 wednesday and the winner is awarded.

I like the idea that nominations cost an M$ or 50Mcents or something. Then all the nomination fees go to the winner. Or, perhaps a 90/10 split between the winner and the nominator(s.

) I nominate an answer at.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
