Are businesses such as restaurants, indoor malls, and governments wasting money and our dwindling natural resources?

Most restaurants, small business shops, theaters, public libraries etc seem to keep the inside temperature uncomfortably low. Is this due to overweight people who demand cooler temps? Is cooler temps needed due to equipment such as computers?

It seems to me we are wasting taxpayer funds and natural resources. Asked by CDoggy 32 months ago Similar questions: businesses restaurants indoor malls governments wasting money dwindling natural resources Education & Reference > Libraries.

Becoming Better:' Benefit yourself and your state In the Caldwells, the Chathams, Bernardsville, Clinton and other suburban enclaves, times are bad. Downtowns border on being ghost towns. Shopping centers and malls host an abundance of vacant stores.

Many restaurants that flourished last year are barely surviving. Customers split a sandwich or a beer. Wine-and-cheese Yuppies are a vanishing breed.

Fears of being fired, furloughed or reduced in rank haunt many, from airline pilots to physical fitness trainers. Training centers for the unemployed provide comfort, but rarely result in jobs for the participants who are too old, too young, too experienced, or not experienced enough. To add to the misery index in New Jersey, taxes of all varieties plague its inhabitants, making it one of the most taxed states in the union.

Unions may win concessions at the bargaining table, but any increase in earnings is quickly gobbled up by rising property, sales and income taxes. The reaction to the question, “Are you better off than four years ago,” is, “Are you kidding? ” Clearly New Jersey can do better.

On Oct. 8, my husband and I escaped for four days to Miami to attend the annual conference of the International Women’s Forum, the same group that sponsored a fabulous gathering in Jordan two years ago about “Building Bridges. ”This year’s theme was “Becoming Better.” Scientific studies show that a positive mental attitude helps promote good health.

A focus on becoming better is also free. Improving one’s posture or attitude costs only time. Walking instead of taking a taxi not only saves money but also improves our health.

When the Latino hotel staff referred to Stan and myself as “the elderly couple,” we relished the dignity the phrase implies. We returned to New Jersey determined to be better. In harsh economic times, there is much that can be enjoyed for free, such as political party activities. Last Wednesday, I journeyed to Chris Christie for Governor Headquarters on Route 10 in Parsippany to enjoy a free hamburger with all the trimmings, provided by my Assemblymen, Alex DeCroce and Jay Webber.

I saw friends and caught up on news. Independent candidates running this year include one who has raised enough money to receive public funds and participate in debates. Such candidates have influenced the major parties over the years, but have rarely won.

The United States is the greatest democracy in the world, thanks in part to its strong two-party system. Being involved in party activity means caring about your neighbor, your community, your state and your nation. It costs only “blood, sweat, toil and tears.

1 They may be wasting natural resources, but it's their own money they're spending (with the exception of the libraries). There are a lot of different reasons these places tend to over-air-condition. The biggest one is that cold is hard to move around; cold air tends to sink and so some places can get uncomfortably hot.

Space heating is easy, but space cooling is harder. So they end up setting the thermostat for the warmest part of the building, and other places are cooler. You don't notice that there are parts of the building that are quite pleasant, because they don't stand out in your mind.

You only notice the coldest part. For movie theaters, it's kind of a historical anomaly. Movie theaters treated air conditioning as a feature in the 1950s: "come on out of the heat".

That was when air conditioning was relatively rare. Even today, that first rush of cold is quite pleasant, long enough to get you to buy a ticket and sit down. It's only after you've been sitting down for a while that you cool off and get uncomfortable, but now you've bought your ticket.

I always feel kind of silly bringing a warm jacket and even extra socks into a movie theater when it's blazing hot, but I do it anyway.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
