Can I take another cold medicine after taking mucinex I took mucinex 9 am can I take alka seltzer plus or something else before 9pm I didn't have a cought before taking the mucinex, now I have a cough and its kind ofhard to catch my breath while i'm coughing. I love mucinex but I feel like its not doing the job, I have the DM with Expectorant in it. If you had taken the Mucinex that is just the expectorant (guaifenesin), or the DM with dextromethorphan HBR (a cough suppresant) then you could take another cold medicine with it. If you took the Mucinex D (which contains sudafed - a decongestant), then you cannot. Make sure whatever medication you add doesn't also contain guaifenesin or dextromethorphan.

Which basically leaves you with the ability to take a sudafed decongestant (makes you produce less mucas) and/or an antihistimine like benedryl (which stops the watery nose and eyes). So chose depending on your symptoms. And the reason you are coughing more is that is what an expectorant does.

It takes the thick mucas in your lungs and thins it out so it is easier to cough up. So you go from a dry cough to a productive cough, which means that now your coughs are clearing out your lungs. This is good because you don't want that stuff to build up in there, and if it is there too long it can lead to a bacterial infection.

I just found this most helpful site as I had the same question as you. You can in fact take Alkaseltzer pklus with mucinex as well as a long list of other things. Here is what it says about the Alkaseltzer followed by the link to the site:Alka-Seltzer Plus (Acetaminophen, Chlorpheriramine and Phenylephrine)?Yes.

They may be taken together if needed. Only take these when needed. Drink plenty of water with the Mucinex.

3 I do take other cold medicines along with Mucunex. Mucinex addresses the congestion issues but not the other symptoms related to a cold. However, everyone is different.As Annlee said, a quick call to your doctor will tell you for sure it is OK for you.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
