No you can NOT use a 120 watt light bulb in a 60 watt fixture 1. ) The wire and or contacts rated for 60 watts safely Doubling the current will more than likely burn out the fixture and possibly cause a fire 2. ) Heat.
Fixtures are rated for a certain temperature. Traditional incandescent bulbs produce a great deal of heat, and only get hotter as the wattage increases. The increased heat will not only damage the fixture, also may start fires i.e.
Burning lamp shades, track lights in ceilings roasting paint and possibly catching the insulation on fire I'm not sure if you are using a dimmer or not, or prefer incandescent but look into buying CFL (compact fluorescent light) bulbs. If you are using a dimmer then you can't use these below , since they are either off or on, they do not dim walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_i... This one is only 26 watts but is equivalent to 100 watt incandescent bulb. They have bigger ones but I only think you will be able to get the 26 CFL to fit into any normal sized fixture.
I have 3 of these in a ceiling fan fixture and I almost need sunglasses indoors. =P Another perk is that last a lot longer than traditional bulbs.
Stick with the 60. If you need more light, you can consider a compact fluorescent with a higher lumen output. The reason the light fixture says "60 Watt max" is because the light fixture has been designed and tested to operate safely with no more heat than is produced by a 60 watt bulb.
Discoloration/heat damage to the fixture components. And of course, risk of fire. While It is pretty rare for a fixture to directly start a fire, an indirect fire from insulation failure is one of the most common causes of fire.
The best option, if you need more light, is to replace the fixture with a multiple lamp fixture. I'm an electrician AND a fireman.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
