Do you let your pets lick you?

Some people think it is gross to let a dog lick you. I'm not talking about the animal licking you ON or IN the mouth. Example, my dog will give what I call a "Walk-by Licking".

She'll be walking by you when she'll just stop, lick your arm or leg, and keep on going. So, do you allow your pets to lick you? Do you allow someone else's pets to lick you?

Give me kisses! "My" dog (he's actually my dad's, but he some times lives with me and I love him like he's mine) will often give me kisses. He's a chocolate Lab, so he's wired to lick; Labs can be very VERY kissy dogs.

Chestnut (the dog's name), isn't super lick-y, but some times when I ask him for one he'll give it to me. When I'm getting ready to go to bed or leave the house I'll bend over and say, "give me kisses! " and he'll lick me on the cheek or forehead.

Only once, though- he won't lick over and over again usualy and he's not super slobbery. Some times he will get in a mood if we're sitting on the couch together and he'll try to lick me over and over again. If it's just my pants or my hand I'll let him and then wash my hand, but I won't let him do that to my face because I'll get hives from it.

He doesn't often lick strangers. He is fond of my mom though, I'm guessing she has flavor. A friend of mine says dogs only lick you because you taste salty and they like that.

I'm not so sure. If Chestnut's in a bad mood he'll refuse to give me kisses when I ask for them, just like a pouty child. Cat kisses creep me out a bit.My friends have a cat, Zoe, who refers to me as "dirty Aunt Amanda.

" (She doesn't actually say anything, that's just what we've decided she thinks). Whenever I come over to the house she HAS to clean me. Usually my pants or feet, and especially if I'm giving her pats at the same time.

Cat-kisses are rough, and on the bottom of your foot they can be pretty tickely. Sources: my experience Video Teamwork!.

Yes, but not on the mouth or face It doesn't both me, but I do not allow it on my mouth or face. If it's my hands, I do wash after. (If fact, I always wash my hands after giving a dog anything more than a simple pat on the head.) This is usually a sign of submission, especially if they lick under your chin.

I want my dog to view him/herself as subordinate to me. I don't know if it's truly a sign of affection, but it seems to be that to me, so I don't want the dog to feel rejected! I know, a bit of anthropomorphizing going on there, but our dogs are like our kids, right?

I allow other people's dogs to lick me depending on how well I know and like the dog. I let my daughter's dog lick me. I let some neighbors' dogs lick me.

But if it's a nippy, smelly, ankle-biter, or if they've just cleaned themselves, I'll demure. This is pretty much the way I was raised. I'm not fanatic about getting a few germs on me.

I actually think letting your immune system deal with a foreign microbe once in awhile strengthens it. As my mom and grandma used to say, "You have to eat a peck of dirt before you die." Yup! I am a total dog person (I may forget your child's name but I'll remember the dog's! ) If I am not in "dress up" clothes I am perfectly happy to sit on the floor with the pups while I visit with you and if I get licked, so what!

If I could survive 25+ years of teaching germs, the dog is not going to hurt me any. Cats I am not so fond of but I'll take a lick there as well. Now snakes... nope... not sure when they would be switching from a lick to a squeeze and a swallow... I DO wash my hands thoroughly before I start food preparation if that makes you feel better... Video Kissy face!.

Yes. My Dog gives me LOTS of kisses all the time! So does my cat.

And my other dog. And my three 5 week old kittens. I even get an occasional nibbly-kiss from my fish.

I felt I must also mention that my dog is not a drooly dog.
