We don't have snatchers when eating at a Chinese restaurant. We just keep twirling the lazy Susan around and around. My friends and family are always saying "Try it, try it. " It's as if we need someone to validate our chosen dish.
Dang, after a while plates are being passed around and some held in the air. Dang, such a melee! .
That makes me mad as a wet hen! Don't touch my plate unless you want a fork in your hand! We're talking grub here!
You had your chance to order what you wanted, I ordered what I wanted. Deal with it! Sometimes when I am out I agree to order 2 different items and half it BEFORE the meal comes, and that's alright.
More often than not I split a dessert with someone, and just ask for another plate. But do not, never, not ever try to snag my biscuit! It all depends on who is doing the food snatching. Sometimes I will trade out food with my wife or just give her a bite so that she can taste whatever it is that I’m eating. Most of the time though I don’t particularly like to trade or share.
The exception is my grandson and he doesn’t bother to ask because he figures that what’s his is his and what is mine is his too. From the time he was two or so that child has loved tomatoes and if I order a salad I can just plan on losing my tomatoes. That’s what he usually pinches but he doesn’t hesitate to try anything on my plate that looks interesting..
I like to share I LOVE to share. When my husband and I go out, we generally pick our top two favorite dishes then share it all. I was not always like this though!
Your question made me laugh because I used to REALLY not like sharing food. I think this was mostly because I didn’t know how to cook yet, and eating out was a luxury, both of which led me to feel a little bit possessive over my food! I generally had the sense that each bite would be my only one ever!
Now, I know how to cook most things and I have the general sense that we can always order more of anything--- even if it is expensive, we can just take leftovers home to provide all or part of the next meal. So I never have the sensation now that a given meal will be my last chance to ever have that food. Sharing is fun.

Within limits.... I don’t mind sharing a forkful of my entree with someone if they’re willing to share back and they ask first. I think I’d be pretty annoyed if they just dug in. I frequently ask my husband for a mouthful of whatever he’s having.
He usually doesn’t want to try mine so I suspect he’s not thrilled that I ask for some of his, but he indulges me anyway! If it gets beyond a forkful or two, then I get annoyed. I’m not willing to give away half of what I ordered!
I think if it started looking like that was going to happen, I’d be inclined to laughingly say, " get your own. " Sometimes if the group is fairly large, we will each order something different with the intention of mixing and matching from each others’ plates. That can actually be fun.
With french fries specifically, they usually give you so many that I’m glad if someone takes them. Otherwise I’ll eat them and I sure don’t need that!
