One of my great-aunts died at 187 Uttoxeter Road, Derby, which wasn't her usual address. The cause of death was senile dementia and the informant was someone causing the body to be buried, so I assume she was in a hospital, residential home or asylum. Does anyone know what was at 187 Uttoxeter Road in 1955?
I've tried googling, and it looks as though the County Asylum was in that area, but I can't find an address for it. --> Reply With Quote --> 06-05-08 06:58 #2 Margaret in Burton View Profile View Forum Posts View Blog Entries View Articles Member Join Date Sep 2006 Posts 2,325 but there is a Uttoxeter Old Road as well as Uttoxeter New Road. I have googled as well and it seems to me that it could be the old workhouse that became the manor hospital, now demolished.
I also remember that the asylum probably what was referred to as "the pastures" in Mickleover, Derby. It's the right area. It was a sort of hospital for mental illnesses.
What about contacting Derby ... more.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
