A lot of people cite the treatment of the Palestinians but, historically speaking, that wasn't the battle cry that united them against Israel. In 1948, it was more due to the fact that it was seen as "Muslim" or "Arab" land and "losing" it to the Jews was an insult they couldn't bear. Because the Jews were supposed to be subservient, and a people that wasn't seen to be strong.
So, it was to them a great insult that Israel would even be allowed to exist in their area, since it conflicted with the ego they were really selling with the Arab movement at the time. When they were sought out for annihilation, there was no "Palestine" battle-cry, and that was the case for many of the following wars and conflicts to immediately follow. I think it's telling the deplorable condition the surrounding Arab states kept the Palestinians in, given that they're the only maintained refugee population on this planet and a lot of discrimination against them happens outside of Israel and in these so-called "brother" states that apparently fight for their behalf.
The media has been very warped over the years. There has been a rebranding campaign that has painted the Israelis as European conquerors...despite the fact that most Israeli Jews are born there, came their legally, and are now at a point that they come from communities formed OUTSIDE of Europe....and personally I think it has preyed on a lot of Western guilt. It doesn't help that they do still see that Palestine isn't formed, and that the refugees are in a deplorable state; however, they are buying a lot of the rhetoric and not really looking into the why.
Palestine isn't formed primarily because the Palestinian leadership has been awful and non-negotiative for the majority of the time, and have failed to assuage Israelis fears that they can peacefully contain the violence that might spill out due to a maintained hate of Israel. Most believe that peace will just naturally come, or don't even think about the consequences of Israel removing themselves completely, because it's just something that doesn't come naturally to them or is emphasized in things they're told. UNRWA is also impotent, and plays up the failings of everything on Israel and not on people such as themselves.
As such, people just view them as the problem, when it's really not that way. Oh, and there is also anti-Semitism in the mix. Not saying all are, but one can't deny an element of it within the hate.
Other people just get a flawed version of the story, or no prospective of Israeli concerns at all. Many Africans who oppose Israel are sold on the "European colonialism" thing, as are a few Asian and Latin American ones. And for the Middle East...well, I already covered that.
Fortunately there are many people who see through the lies or at least recognize the conflict is far more complicated than they're told, but that's really how a lot of people are unfortunately convinced into hating Israel.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
