I had a bizarre collection. I had a collecting problem many years ago. About eight years ago I was going through a "self made depression".

I started watching QVC and ordering all kinds of things that I did not need. I started with jewelry and gem stones. I never get dressed up that fancy to wear half the stuff I bought and the gem stones are still sitting in a box in my dresser.

I was going to have the gem stones set into jewelry. Then I started watching a Doll Collector program on QVC and ordered my first doll. These dolls ranged about $100 each.

I started with one and ended up with 25 dolls. My family thought I had lost my mind. I had dolls displayed all over my house.My two grown children tried to talk to me about this "problem" but I ignored them.

One day a friend that I had not seen in a long time came to visit. She walked in and was struck by all these scary looking dolls. I remember she held my hand and quietly asked me if I was all right and I broke down crying.

I finally saw with my own eyes how I had gone over the edge. I packed up all the dolls in large boxes and they are sitting up in my attic and have been for years now. Looking back I now think in a crazy way that I was "buying grandchildren".

I know that must sound nuts. My daughter who had been trying to get pregnant for ten years was told she would never have children. All my friends were becoming grandparents and I was constantly going to baby showers or having pictures of grandchildren shoved in my face.

My story ended up good. After over ten years of trying and two miscarriages my daughter ended up getting pregnant at 39 years old. Today she is 43 years old and just had her third baby almost two months ago.

Maybe someday I will give these porcelain dolls to my granddaughter. She is only two years old now. Today I collect nothing!

Vintage things I've been selling random things on ebay for years now and 2 of the interesting things I've found that people collect are vintage ice cream scoops and pin cushions. There's also markets for ugly Christmas sweaters, cat art in any form, Pez dispensers, jadite mugs and other limited edition glassware. One of the weirdest things I've seen, although I don't know if it's actually collected, is well worn socks.

I think I also remember a science oriented person collecting different types of animal feces samples. Who'da thunk it? Sources: ebay, thrift shops and flea markets .

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
