HOLIDAYS... which do you get the most meaning from.... ie...Christmas, New Years, 4th of July, Thanksgiving, Easter. Etc? My family and I enjoy the holiday seasons... all of them... we used to really decorate for Christmas.... I don't really know how the meaning of Christmas got so off the track into "gift giving"hmmm.. may have to reasearch that one...last year we started something new for us... we sent out cards but we set our decorations up for New Years Eve instead... gifts were given on New Years Day to celebrate the incoming year....our phillosophy for this is: if you make it through the holiday season and live to see the New Year in .... that is something to celebrate... a new year a new life... not everyone gets that chance....what's your phillosophy?

Thanksgiving, 4th of July, Passover... Thanksgiving is big in our family. We thank God for his blessings and try to put away for good any differences or hard feelings. This is a time for extended family and friends.

Most have a four day weekend off so travel is easier. It's a time for reflection and renewing. 4th of July is for the most part is one large family get URL1 may be camping or a BBQ, or maybe just a picnic or a shop party if it's raining.

Anyway, we eat too much, talk too much and just plain enjoy our freedom. We salute those who fought to give/keep that freedom. Whenever weather permits, we like to take the boats out to watch the fireworks over the water.

Passover is a time to remember what God has done for It's a time for the young to listen to the stories as told by the old. It was also the time when Christ's blood was shed for our sins. We are not worthy but Christ died for us while we were yet sinners.

What greater gift could God give than New Years is not celebrated. It's a stay home night. Too many accidents, too many drunks on the roads.

Christmas, Easter, Halloween and Valentines Day are not celebrated as they have been fused with pagan holidays. I won't get into the chocolate idols, fertility eggs, or the woman lottery here as it's not the place. Everybody has their own reason to, or not to celebrate these.

I think most don't know the history. Please don't think I am judging anyone. Just know that I love the Lord, and for me and mine, we choose not to celebrate these.

You choose as you like. God, family are what's important. Enjoy a close relationship with Them.

Peace be with you all...

Resurrection Sunday also known as Easter by many. That is the day when the full meaning of my faith hits me anew each year.

Good question! Well....Christmas is probably most meaningful to me....though not for strictly religous reasons. On my religous ranking radar, Easter comes in first.

For me though--they rank the following: 1. Christmas - Birth of Christ and the best chance of getting our entire family together to celebrate. 2.

Easter - thanks to this holiday I believe we can all be saved! -- its also a great chance to get everyone together and the weather is usually awesome! 3.

Thanksgiving---a time to be thankful is always important to me! 4. Valentines' Day -- its my daughters birthday :) The rest are all about the same to me!.

I love Thanksgiving. I love them all equally but Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. It means that everyone family and friends are having a great meal together and to me that is like starting off the new year right..

I think Christmas has the most meaning for me. That's because I love the energy of so many people the world over thinking the same things all at the same time. I know everyone is not happy at Christmas, and maybe it's my imagination, but there's just something about stepping outside alone for a moment on Christmas Eve in the quiet and the dark and feeling the happiness and good wishes of millions of people in the air.

They might be good folks or not, but for that one time of the year, they seem to be in unison--I love that. As far as commercialism goes, we have a way around that with our kids. We have always celebrated Yule on the first day of winter, and now that we have the kids, we do a little more.

We give hand-made gifts. We build a little cave in the back yard and put home-made figures in it, one for each person in the family and a figure of a woman and a baby. I made ours out of beeswax.

We take them out at sunset and put them in the cave with lighted candles (the jar kind) and we let it burn all night. It's terrific to look out at any time that evening on the longest night of the year, and see our figures in the reflected light of the fire on the stone walls of the cave. On Christmas Eve we open the bought gifts, eat a lot of rich junk foods along with steak and shrimp and then go to the movies the next day.

I always think of Yule and Christmas as two celebrations of the same thing. The Christians had no holidays until the Romans conquered pagans who were unwilling to give up their own holidays. Many of the pagan gods were born on the solstice, so it was no stretch for the Romans turn Yule into Christmas. It still seems to work out for everyone.

Last year, I decided to stop "celebrating" holidays, in particular Christmas. Does anyone else feel the same way?

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
