How can I connect my internet card to my laptop if my PCMCIA slot doesn't work?

My laptop had a cookie stuck in the PCMCIA slot. In the process of removing it I bent the pins in the card slot. Now I don't know how I will be able to use my erikson internet card that I have on a 2 year contract.

You're going to have to get your PCMCIA slot repaired This is actually a pretty easy fix, but I don't recommend you try doing it yourself. Unlike a desktop, laptops can be pretty tricky to take apart and put back together. I don't know your laptop manufacturer, but they can easily replace your PCMCIA slot.

But any good repair shop, like Best Buy, can take care of this for probably under $100. So you're going to have to shell out a little cash to get it fixed, but it's better than letting your 2 year contract going to waste and it's cheaper than buying a new laptop. Sorry this isn't the best news, but at least you've got an option.

Tough one... I'm going to assume that your laptop is connected via broadband (cable or DSL), you're not dialing up. And I don't know which model laptop / brand name that you have.... so here goes! If the slot has bent pins and you don't have another available slot on your laptop, do you have a 10/100 (ethernet) plug-in on the back or sides?

To tell, it looks a LOT like where a phone would plug into your laptop, but a phone inlet is more square shaped and the ethernet inlet is more rectangular (shorter and wider). If your laptop has to be sent for repairs, it can be costly. Usually the PCMCIA slot is part of the mother-board of your laptop, and they may need to replace the entire motherboard.

I work in an IS setting where we deal with end-users having varying mis-haps to the laptops (I've seen the screen panel literally smashed, and the end-user said he didn't know what to do... also seen something as a mouse port being damaged by someone's child tripping on the mouse cord and damaging the pins). Do you have 'insurance' on your laptop that covers any form of problem? The standard warranty provided by the manufacturer won't cover 'abuse' even if it's not intentional.

This would probably fit into that scope. If not, and they want to replace the mother-board, I've seen Dell charge up $900 to replace it! On the other-hand, if you have complete-care from Dell, or another form of insurance to cover 'anything' then they'll usually replace or repair the problem at no cost to you.

I've never been a person to purchase extended warranties on desktop PCs, but I always purchase this type of coverage on a laptop; there's just too many things that can go wrong and often you have to replace the entire board since it's usually made as an single unit rather than like a PC. Personally, my laptop is a Dell and has two PCMCIA slots and an ethernet inlet as well, so I'm hoping that your laptop may be designed similarly. If so, you won't be able to connect the laptop via your PCMCIA if it's wireless but you could connect, cabled, using the ethernet inlet on the back.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
