How do I get my ingrown toenail to stop hurting?

You need to have the ingrown toenail get cut out be a podiatrist. I had it done one and it didn't hurt a bit, never grew back either, thank goodness because those ingrown toenails can hurt like heck.

I know... I cannot walk! My dad thinks its just pain from rubbing in my shoe, but I don't think so... Could you cut it out yourself, or should I have a professional do it? BasicColor 2 months ago .

If it hurts that bad go to a podiatrist. Soaking it in epson salt is going to help temporarily but not solve the problem. If it's red, hot, and throbbing it may very well be infected in which case you'll need antibiotics.

Good luck.

Try soaking it in warm water with epson salt. Apply Neosporin to the area. If you have diabetes you MUST see a doctor.

From Mayo Clinic:You can treat most ingrown toenails at home. Here's how: Soak your feet. Do this for 15 to 20 minutes two or three times a day in warm water.

Soaking reduces swelling and relieves tenderness. Place cotton or dental floss under your toenail. Put fresh bits of cotton or waxed dental floss under the ingrown edge after each soaking.

This will help the nail eventually grow above the skin edge. Change the cotton or the floss daily until the pain and redness subside. Use a topical antibiotic.

Apply an antibiotic ointment and bandage the tender area. Choose sensible footwear. Consider wearing open-toed shoes or sandals until your toe feels better.

Take pain relievers. If there's severe pain, take over-the-counter pain relievers, such as acetaminophen (Tylenol, others) or ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB, others) to relieve the pain until you can see your doctor. Check your feet.

If you have diabetes, check your feet daily for signs of ingrown toenails or other foot problems. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/ingrown-toenails/DS00111/DSECTION=lifestyle-and-home-remedies com/health/ingrown-toenails/DS00111/DSECTION=lifestyle-and-home-remedies.

You go to a podiatrist and get it whacked off. Really. The "ingrown" part is that the toenail has split and that split is on the side.

Part of the toenail is growing to the side, into your skin. The cure is to cut that part open and slice off the split. Now this slice-off-the-split comes in two flavors: cheaper temporary and more expensive permanent (won't do it again.) I know this because I was hit by a car in 1983 and the fluid pooled in my left leg, swelled my left foot, and I showed up at CountyUSC Medical Center about eight times for a left toe ingrown toenail.

I showed up there so many times the doctor finally broke county rules and did the second, permanent option for me, which did prevent a ninth visit. So I know from eight the left and one on the right that a podiatrist is the ONLY fix for this one, and yes, it'll hurt like the dickens until then.

I know, but my father doesn't think it's an ingrown toenail, yet only ONE side of the toe hurts. BasicColor 2 months ago .

Sounds like its already infected, in which case you will need antibiotics and surgery, I've had it done, my toe was sooooo numbed up I couldn't feel anything at all. Read this article, it has some home care tips and advice>>primehealthchannel.com/ingrown-toenail-c... html.

First of all, if you're like me, no way in hell am I going to be cutting and rolling my toenail down the side. I keep my toenails short (don't like a lot of white showing) and I always cut straight across, but I had torn the corner of my nail once and when it started growing back, OMG, did it hurt! This is what I did and have done since - first, make sure you keep your toe moist.

Put lotion on it and work the skin back away from your nail. Soak it in warm water with epsom salts. Once your skin feels like you can move it away from your toenail a little bit, grab some tweezers and a piece of cotton.

Pull a little piece of cotton off. Can't be very thick or you won't be able to get it under your toenail - but it has to be thick enough for your toenail to sit on top of it. I use one side of my tweezers to lift the nail ever so slightly while working the cotton piece underneath it.

Like I said, don't make it so thick that it's uncomfortable, you want relief, not more pain. Make it go about 1/4 to 1/2 way across your nail. If it ends up sticking out above your toe, clip it off so it doesn't end up being pulled out.

I put neosporin around it etc. I then put a bandaid over it so that it doesn't come out. I'll tell ya, it will be instant relief. I've gotten one on the other toe since then and I'm SO glad I figured out what to do.

The first time I suffered far too long. My toe was ON FIRE, red, the skin had begun to peel from swelling. I had talked to my regular Dr. many months after that and just mentioned it because someone told me that swelling meant an infection.

That is not necessarily true. A toenail that is growing into your skin in an of itself can cause swelling! I hope you've gotten relief already - but keep this easy remedy in mind.

Good Luck.

Here's the deal - I've had many ingrown toenails so I know what I'm talking about. What you need to do when you first realize you have an ingrown toenail is take care of it. Yes, it hurts but it's not nearly as bad as letting it go.

I had one go so bad I couldn't wear shoes, only slippers and I had to go to the ER and they actually removed the ingrown toenail and burned the nerves so I could never get one there again. So what you need to do is soak your feet in warm water with sea salt for about 10 minutes. (And yes, I've done this.

The sea salt helps numb the area a little bit. ) After that, you need to take nail clippers and clip about 1/8-inch in from the side of your nail (the side the ingrown part is on) and clip down about 1/2-inch. Then take some tweezers and start "rolling" the top part down of the side-part.(Like you're curling spaghetti around a fork.) The sea salt not only numbs, but softens the nail.

Now doing this is going to hurt but it feels SO much better when you're done. The nail will roll down and you can see the other part of the ingrown nail growing out from the side of your nail and you can pull it out..

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
