How do you get over writer's block?or as I like to call it poet's block?

Write poetry for 2 minutes no matter what you're motivation level is with no requirement for quality; anyone can write for 120 seconds with no expectations about the product. With in 2 seconds maximum, begin an activity that you find very rewarding or enjoyable; something you love to do and do every day any how. Do the reward activity for 10-30 minutes and then come back and write poetry for 5 minutes without expectation.

Then reward your writing effort with an enjoyable activity again. Continue this process of gradually expanding the number minutes you spend writing and then positively reinforcing the writing with decreasing time spent on the immediate reward activity. It's as simple as it is counter-intuitive.In the case of poetry writing, I would recommend selecting reward activities that use those same psychological/creative process that poetry writing does.

For example, read some poetry or literature that you just love that will get your creative juices flowing. You may also want to rest your mind deeply before starting the writing again, so it's ready to go once you start.

Once you have an idea, think of an image or metaphor to make the idea come alive. Then begin to unfold your idea slowly and see what happens. You can always return and tweak it later.

Good luck.

One way to deal with writer's block is to write. I mean write anything a shopping list or just a diary of your day. Once the flow of words starts for something that is unimportant then it is then easier to write creatively once again.

Limiting the amount of time you allow yourself to write something also helps, as does trying to write on different topics to the ones you usually write about. Describing a photograph or painting in words can help too.

I keep a small tape recorder with a voice activating mic on it , with me all the time and record my thoughts and feelings. I turn it on when I don't have the time to write or can't when I am driving . It is great because I do a lot of traveling also .

Which traveling brings the inner me out when I see the beauty of the countryside while driving . Hope this helps.

I normally walk away from the project for a while. It may take a day or two, but I simply don't try as hard. Sometimes I find myself trying to force the words...I have found that doesn't work.

Taking a break is the best way I have found to combat the problem.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
