How is Botulism Transmitted?

Botulism is caused usually by eating food contaminated with the bacteria. Most cases are traced to home-canned foods that are not cooked, or canned properly, allowing the bacteria to grow. Infant botulism also occurs when an infant swallows dust particles that contain spores, or ingest honey containing botulism spores.

Finally wound botulism occurs when a wound is contaminated by common soil containing the bacteria.
