Kevlar is a very strong an dlightweight syntheti yarn that is VERY tightly woven, layer upon layer, to form (among other things) bullet RESISTANT (not bullet PROOF) vests. The strength of the yarn and fabric, coupled with their flexibility makes an ideal soft and lightweight body armor. Which absorbs rather than deflects bullets.
