How many Billions should be cut from the 2011 Budget before agreeing to increase the debt limit?

In 1983 we were in the same situation. Reagan agreed to raise the debt ceiling AND raise taxes on the promise that Tip O'Neil and the Democrats would cut their spending. Reagan signed off on the raises and O'Neil failed to uphold his end of the bargain.

Those who don't study history are bound to repeat it. So, Obama has put upon the table a promise to cut $4 Trillion over the next 10 years, but he doesn't say from where he will get that money. Checking into the stats posted by The Office of Management and Budgets we find last year that budget was $3.5 Trillion.

Of that, only $2.2 Trillion was covered by taxation, the other $1.3 Trillion, we had to borrow. Even if things were to remain stagnant and not inflate, that means that over the next 10 years, that $1.3 Trillion would grow to $12.3 Trillion. Subtracting the paltry $4 Trillion offered by Obama means that we'd STILL have a deficit of $9.3 Trillion.

Now Mr. Obama insists that a law requiring a balanced budget is NOT necessary? The only logical conclusions are that Mr. Obama is NOT serious about our financial ruin and that he intends to blame the Republicans and then pass the buck on to the next poor sap who takes office. So much for "Hope and Change."

So much for "leadership." And by the way, it is the job of the legislature to decide where the money gets spent. It is the job of the executive office to make sure that money goes where the legislature has directed.

It is illegal for the executive office to default. AND, per the 14th Amendment of the Constitution, the president is authorized to raise the debt ceiling withOUT congressional approval. So regardless, we are screwed, it only becomes a matter of by how much.

This is all just a big dog and pony show for the stupid people who know not the laws of the land. He's going to borrow from Peter to pay down what he's borrowed from Paul. Dare I mention that over 35% of the budget ($1228 Billion) goes towards "social" programs (does NOT include Social Security OR Medicare).. Guess from where I'd be making those cuts!

No new taxes.

The democrats never agree to cuts In the 1990s they howled and moaned over a 1/2 cent cut on every program .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
