I am not clear with the answer to the question "Is speaking in tongues really a higher step in ones?

Speaking in tongues is the evidence that you have been baptized with the Holy Spirit. It's indeed a higher step to your spiritual growth and development. You can not prophecy until you are baptized in the Holy Spirit.

Prophecy is one of the gift of the Spirit. Read Acts 2:4,1Cor.12,14 for better understanding.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
