I have two cats, one female (Psycho) and one male (Julius). One won't poop in the litter box?

I have two cats, one female (Psycho) and one male (Julius). One won't poop in the litter box. Psycho seems to be the more dominant one, but she ALWAYS uses the litter box.

Julius however, will pee in the litter box, but he poops right outside of the litter box, and will still manage to take litter from the box and cover his poop, yet he does not poop in the box. We've tried having two boxes, we clean it everyday, and even right after we clean it he still will poop outside of it? We even got a big box, we got a big Rubbermaid container actually, because he is a big boy, he has plenty of space.

We don't know what to do and it is pretty aggravating....I hope someone has some suggestions.... Asked by LindseyS 37 months ago Similar questions: cats female Psycho male Julius poop litter box Pets > Cats.

Dealing with this right now. I am dealing with this very problem.. though not exact. 1.

You need to have 1 litter box per cat +1. First - fix the number of litter boxes you have. 2.

Try removing the cover of the litter boxes. Cats can smell a lot better than you can. 3.

Get some feliway plugins. Put one by the litterbox. 4.

Clean the area he is pooping with the speciality product yoru local pet store sells. If the cat is pooping in the same place every time - it may because it smells like the place to poop. 5.

If the poos aren't solid - take him to the vet. He may have a problem and not want to get poo on himself. 6.

If all else fails - separate and retrain. Lock him up in a room with a food dish and a water dish and 3 litter boxes. 1 litter box he always uses to pee in - and 2 others (one covered and one uncovered).

Fill them up with just a couple of inches of litter. He may be a big guy and not like sinking. Use litter attractant in all 3 litter boxes.

Keep feliway in the room. Visit him often and show lots of affect.. the room isn't a punishment - it is to help him figure things out. Lastly.. is he an outside cat.. if so.. you may want to put a couple of leaves on top of one litter box... it may coax him to poo there... any additional help - feel free to post in the db and msg me.

There are lots of things you can do - don't lose patience.

1 If you have an extra litter box hanging around, try letting Julius have his own place to go. He might be intimidated by Psycho's dominance and won't "go" in her territory. You might need to separate it a bit so he's got some privacy from Psycho. It's telling that he's still trying to cover it up.

That's what makes me think it's related to their hierarchy and his hesitance to invade her space....? Worth a try.

After a couple of weeks, ten days start moving the paper toward/over the box. Make it a smaller piece with each change, until it's gone. He's in the habit now so no cognitive solution will work.

I still think it has something to do with aversion to the dominant cat...do you favor her? .

3 If anything I think we favor Julius. I don't think we try to favor either cat. We have tried having two litter boxes but Psycho has to be the first one to use both!

So it's like she is marking her territory, and we really don't know how to change that. We don't keep the boxes covered because Julius is a big boy and he doesn't like that. That is why we just bought a big rubbermaid container for them.

We are going to try cleaning the space really well with some cleaner, because I read about the scent and that might be it. I'm just afraid eventually it will happen again. We might try seperating them, and see if he still does it.

I agree with using less litter though....maybe he sinks...hmm....

4 put julius in teh bathroom with the litter box - let him use it for a few days to get his scent on it. That should let him feel comfortable.. also - a feliway plugged in right by the litterbox works wonders as far as territory disputes..

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
