I need a new clothes washer. Do you own or use a clothes washer with steam? My 20-year-old Maytag is biting the dust.My husband and I have started looking around for a new energy efficient front loader and are going through sticker shock.

I kind of like the idea of using steam to wash clothes, but my husband questions the extra cost. So I am wondering at how well or how much better a steam washer will clean the laundry. I remember that the Chinese laundries used steam to wash the clothes and linens in the old days.

It seems to me that the laundry would be sanitized without using bleach. I even read somewhere that steam washing doesn't need detergent. Can you tell me your experiences using these new machines?

We have the LG steam washer at our business for cleaning uniforms Seems like it does a really good job and fast. It does 60 uniforms (a day's worth) pants and shirts in two loads in about 40 minutes. The clothes come out damp, but we toss them on hangers so the guys can get them the next day.

That's a trade off job we all get when we're not traveling at our office and it saved up well over 10,000 in uniform costs last year. Another thing we use it for is the sales guys have found that in 6 minutes, they can toss their dry cleaning suit jackets in there and they look like new, if a tad damp. So just before a big meeting, they do that.

Another alternative is SAmsung Silver care.It uses a bar of silver (replace about every 5 years for 50 bucks)that kills the bacteria but doesn't damage .

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
