I want to buy an inexpensive laptop but don't want to pay for the OS. I'll install a free OS. I don't want a used one.

Will a laptop without a Windows OS be cheaper? Where can I find one? Thanks.

Go to dell...... Thesy tend to allow you to buy their hardware with linux pre-installed. Linux will be cheaper than any other OS (because they may still charge you for the CDs\DVD and any manuals that come with it, but that's all they can charge you for). Unfortunately, they will only do this if you order the machine over the phone.

I haven't seen the option on their website. The other thing to consider is that with a laptop, you tend to need very specific drivers. If you want to use your own OS, you need to make sure that the drivers for the hardware you purchase is available.

The benefit of getting the linux install from dell would be that the drivers should come installed. Another thing to consider is the actual savings. If you're looking for a big dollar savings, you're going to be disappointed (assuming you don't go for Vista Ultimate or something similarly bloated).

Why? Because OEM installs that come with laptops are cheaper than the boxed installs you can buy at Best Buy or a similar store. The reason this is the case is because the install is tied to the machine and company you bought it from has a contract with Microsoft.

Finally, you're probably not going to find a laptop that comes with no OS. This goes back to the drivers. You need drivers that match your hardware and they tend not to provide drivers for every OS out there on a CD.

They might through their support site, but again, it could be difficult to find the right ones. Good luck.

A good article on the topic below and some resellers for non-windows OS laptops A good article that addresses the topic of new laptops without the Windows OS preinstalled is located at: mcelrath.org/laptops.html Their slant is more towards getting a latptop with any flavor of linux on board, but the end result for you is the same since most of the OS's these places are providing is license free. Resellers of machines without Windows include: abestpc.com/laptop.htm eracks.com/products/Laptops laclinux.com/en/Start thelinuxlaptop.com/" rel="nofollow">thelinuxlaptop.com/ It's pretty hard to find a new laptop with no OS at all -- and some are one's where the license was paid for the Microsoft Windows OS and then later removed before being sold as a "no OS" machine. The last company listed (thelinuxlaptop.com/" rel="nofollow">thelinuxlaptop.com/) claims the laptops they sell have never had a Windows license.

Hope that helps! .

Cheaper, not really... unfortunately! Sounds like you’re wanting to explore the wonderful (yet powerful) world of free operating systems! I would highly recommend checking out the many varieties of Linux.

Some of them are quite well polished, nowadays. ;-)Now, on to your question. Yes, Dell does provide a very small line of laptops that come only with a free operating system, such as DOS or Linux.

However, I think that you’ll find that most companies charge (including Dell) approximately the same price as you would pay for for the machine if it came with Windows, etc. I have provided a link to Dell’s FREE OS-based laptops. Hope this helps! Sources: http://www.dell.com/content/products/features.aspx/nseries_nb?s=bsd .

Yes, it will be cheaper. Wait for a weekday (9 am - 5pm central) and this way you usually get an "on-shore" sales rep. Then pick you manufacturer, say Dell (I know they will), and ask the about ordeering XYZ model without an OS.It will be cheaper.

Buying a laptop without OS will not give you much of a discount Computer manufacturers are not going to offer you much of a discount for a laptop without an OS...you may find one but I doubt it will be much cheaper in price. The manufacturer will likely offer you ~$10 off the total price. You are probably far better off spending your time shopping around for a true sale price laptop...yes it will come preinstalled with an OS but it will be cheaper than anything you can find without an OS.

I would suggest going to the following web site: forums.slickdeals.net/ Search/watch the Hot Deals forum for "laptop" (Search in thread titles only) I would guess you will be able to purchase an inexpensive new laptop for ~$500 or less. Here are some examples of current deals: forums.slickdeals.net/showthread. Php?

How can I install Adobe 32 bit software on to XP Pro 64 bit OS.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
