If I were to go buy a semi perm dye kit that was a blonde colour would it make my brown hair dark blonde? please help?

Please help! Basically I have brown hair, about level 6/5 not sure =S and I want it to go lighter but only semi, if I bought a blonde dye like L'Oreal or something would it make it a light brown and does it bleach it? , cause bleaching is something I really want to avoid, I'm not after permanent either.

Hair color I'm sorry to say that you're probably not going to get the effect you're going for with a semi-permanent color. Semi-permanent dyes don't have the bleaching agents that permanent colors do. You can lighten your hair with a permanent dye because it lifts away the existing color.

Semi-permanent dye will only deposit more color. This makes them great for darkening hair, or for adding "tone" to hair (for instance, golden tones to ashy hair), and they can work well to cover gray, but they won't do much to lighten hair. The best you could hope for are some mild brightening effects.As far as Manic Panic goes (it's been a while, but I have used it once or twice!

), you'll have to trust me when I say that the lighter the hair, the better it looks. Unfortunately, the lighter the hair, the greater the risk of it being more permanent than you might like. I wish I could tell you that there's an alternative to using a permanent color, but I can't imagine you getting any kind of significant results using a semi-permanent...you'd probably just be wasting your money.

So if I could offer an alternative: either get a permanent hair dye that's a shade or two lighter than your current (a level six, at least according to most color charts, is a very light brown, and a level five is usually still considered light brown), or go to a salon and get some highlights, since they can brighten things up while still keeping it subtle. And highlights grow out much better than all-over dye, since you don't end up with an obvious "root line" when your natural color starts growing back in. If you do get bored with your new color before it's had time to grow out, I suspect you won't have much trouble dying over your hair with a dye that's close to your natural color.

If you do, though, consult a salon, or at the very least do a strand test to make sure that the new dye won't react with the old to give you a nasty surprise when you're done. Hope this helps! You cannot lighten WITHOUT PEROXIDE! There are 7 stages of hair blonde/black and 5 horrifying colors of red/gold. If you try using something without peroxide, it will do nothing.

If you use a box tint thats blond, on medium brown hair.....yee Gods-----it will be a really gross reddish color. I'm sure you've seen people with dark brown hair who used lightener....and its organge or gold. You really want that.

You can go to Sally Beauty supply and buy say a Loreal haircolor and use 40 volume peroxide....which will help the lifting.....I highly recommend a professional....or better yet a weave. Your hair has to be BLEACHED for the use of manic panic......just remember a semi perm----will do nothing---- Depending on your color--you say its a 5 or 6..thats medium brown...a blond box tint will make it a horrible reddish orange gold-----trust me--I have corrected many teenage mistakes, men & women......a box tint just isn;t strong enough.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
