I have... Well I'm sure I'm not the only one, I know a few others who have! It is my opinion that they are not very frequently read by newbies here. I think users here learn as they go, and when they have a question about how something works, they may look at that specific area of the FAQ or ask a question.

But I doubt many read them completely before they begin asking or answering questions. One of the things I see often is self promoting advertising. They probably know it is against the rules here, but I think there are some newbies that may just be trying to get away with it.

I do encourage others to read the FAQ, but don't mind the occasional question that can be answered by pointing a newbie in the right direction.

Me! But, on the other hand, I'm a bibliomaniac. If you show me anything written down, printed or on a CRT, assume I'll read it if it is one of the languages that I understand.

I don't think that the FAQs are any threat to Hemingway's literary reputation, but they are more or less comprehensible. askville.amazon.com/faq.html If I may be so bold as to offer a suggestion, would it help if Askville added something on the initial screen when you first register to remind newbies to read the FAQs because they will be on the final exam? It worked in college, didn't it?

Yes, in fact, just yesterday I like to know the "rules" or the protocol of a place before I enter. Now this could be a throwback to dancing school and learning which fork to use, which I'm so relieved to say is not usually a problem here on Askville. However, I've been here for 3 weeks or a month, (other than a speed drop in April) and I kept wondering what the guidelines were.

I read a particularly vocal and very honest discussion yesterday in response to one of Marissa's questions, I made a comment and among other things asked whether there was an established protocol. She messaged back and recommended the FAQs, which I thoroughly read, but but will not remember. I am glad to know they are there and can refer to them..

It took me a long time to know FAQ existed... Then, I tried to read the whole thing...but was still too new to understand a lot of the deeper stuff. I like to use it as a reference...when a question comes up about the inner workings of Askville. Maybe it should be 'required reading' for Newbies coming on board...LOL Sources: My thoughts HELENofTROY's Recommendations Learning The Ropes Amazon List Price: $22.99 Used from: $13.73 Average Customer Rating: 4.5 out of 5 (based on 3 reviews) .

This is making me insane. " "Do you take issue with askvillers helping to police Askville? Read details before you answer." "How many questions have you posted on Askville?

" "Several hundred silly questions... Are these users making AskVille less appealing to you? " "Askville says I have not asked any questions? I just posted my first one.

" "Have you read Askville's FAQ yet? " "Does anyone else like the older format of Askville?(New Questions posted on home page)." "A modest suggestion that might improve the quality of the questions posted on Askville.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
