Is baby weaning at 10 months?

My 10 month old baby boy just started nursing on one side and will not take the other (not necessarily the same sides each nursing session though). Could it be possible that he is weaning himself? I read that few babies try to wean themselves before 1 year.

What are other signs that he might be trying to wean himself? Asked by SpicyTuna 57 months ago Similar questions: baby weaning 10 months Family.

It happened to us, and come to find out, we were pregnant Our daughter (now 19 months) weaned herself almost completely at 9 months. My wife decided to "nurse it along" (pun intentded) until she turned a year. The punch line of the story is, when our daughter started weaning, we eventually took a pregnancy test, which was positive.

Baby boy was born two months ago! There are other reasons a kid would wean, too, but if you could, I'd nurse a little bit (even just once a day) until your son is a year.

It is possible... First congradulations on nursing him to this point. My little guy never got all of his nutrition from nursing (I just didn't produce enough), so we supplemented, which was okay with me. Buy 5 months he only nursed twice a day and we stoped right around 6 months.

One of the signs he was ready to stop was he would just cuddle up to me instead of feeding. I think since he nursed so little, my body gave up and produced less, and it was a downward cycle. But at 10 months I think it might be more of a distraction problem.

When it is time to switch sides he might be more intrested in getting down and crawling. If you have started table foods, he might be getting enough (bulk) from that source. If you think he is getting less milk and are concerned that he is getting enough nutrition, you may consider offering expressed breastmilk or formula in a cup.

The following article has a lot of good suggestions. http://www.americanbaby.com/ab/story.jhtml;jsessionid=BU0ABIZY2MC4JQFIBQPSCAQ?storyid=/templatedata/ab/story/data/ABSept2003_9MonthOldStopsBreastfeeding_10132003.xml&catref=AB31 I can't tell from your question, but if you are ready to stop, this maybe just the opening you can use to start weaning. But if you don't want to stop yet, it may be time for you to step up your efforts and work at getting him to complete a feeding.

It's possible but not necessarily the case. It is possible that your baby is self-weaning at this age. I have a friend who went through the same thing. My own daughter self-weaned at 14 months.

It's also possible that he's going through a stage where he's easily distracted, doesn't need as much milk, or is teething - which can also lead to decreased milk intake for a while. My daughter went through all those stages while nursing (at one time or another). If you're committed to breastfeeding, keep trying but make sure that you're not forcing your child and also that he's getting enough nutrition (either from nursing, pumped milk, formula, and solid foods).

If you reach a point where you've tried for a while and he just doesn't seem "into" it anymore, it's ok to move on. This can be a tough thing to accept, especially if it was your goal to nurse for at least a year. All you can do is make sure you're doing the best thing for your little boy and everything else will come into place.

Hmmm, I don't think that is weaning I don't know if it is weaning. It might just be a preference for one side. It might be easier to get milk for him on that side, the positioning might be more comfortable for him.

Some kids do wean themselves, but it has been my experience that the mother really has to work at weaning, the child usually doesn't want to give it up, at least not at 10 months. My daughter nursed until 16 months. After a year, we only nursed at night if she woke up, and believe me she did.

Just to be next to me, not because she was hungry. We finally weaned her at 16 months of the middle of the night cuddle sessions. I would guess that it is something else going on, not that he is trying to wean.

There are good books on nursing that might help answer your questions, or better yet, call your local lactation consultant or le leche league member, they are always willing to give good advice and information. Good luck.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
