Is it possible to retrieve the contents of cell phone SMS text Messages if you have phone records?

2 As more executives use cell & mobile phone text messages to conduct business, their companies should consider retaining the text records. The records may be needed for legal purposes. --Ben hack-igations.blogspot.com/2007/11/insta... .

No more than it is possible to retrieve the contest of the phone conversation if you have phone records. It simply does not work that way.At best, there might be a copy of the message at the telecom's SMS server - but those usually get purged on automated basis every couple of days, weeks or months. It is not that it would be hard for them to store them (SMS messages are tiny and very compressible) it is just that in some countries it may be illegal (privacy) and even if it weren't - there is just too much noise. Too much pointless, indecipherable meaningless data for anyone to sift through. And even if the telecom IS keeping records - getting them is akin to getting a wire-tap on someone.

Only police and secret services can do that legally, and only with a VERY good reason. Granted, today anything from "He passes children's playground on his way to work" to "He looks Arabic" is a good reason. What PIs COULD do is recover data from actual phones that were used and SIM cards through which those SMSs were sent.

Actually, you don't even need Private Investigators for that. Software is readily available.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
