I'm in my 60's and lived through the women's rights movement. One of the main goals of the women's movement here was to encourage women to work, get the same pay for that work as men, and for women to enter into professional fields which was rare before the 70's. In view of that, comparing the US to the situation in Russia isn't possible.
Women here "wanted it all". You still hear that phrase about women in this country. With a 50% divorce rate, women have to be able to support themselves and often their children.
At the same time that women entered the work force in droves, the divorce rate went up. I was pleased to see that women were finally given a choice but that choice often doesn't exist because it now takes two incomes to live the lifestyles they seek. There is no job security anymore.
When I entered the workforce in 1965, some of the people where I worked had been there since they were 16, 50 years or more. That just doesn't happen anymore. It isn't capitalism that is causing this.
Do you really want to have your choices removed? Capitalism wasn't the problem since it is what made our country prosperous before the women's movement.
Family values are family values, whether you're Republican or Democrat. My take is this: Republican: Have tunnel vision, think their way is the only way, don't want their children exposed to anything different than they are, which in turn is really denying their children that America is full of different people, with different ideas, denying their children of any culture, diversity and acceptance of others. Liberals: Live their life by "live and let live", be open minded and be able to hear all sides of a story and come to your own conclusions, there are all types of cultures in our country, none better than the other and most of all be tolerant of those who think differently.
The bottom line is children should be allowed to be children, have happy, worry free childhoods and not be exposed to all the adult B.S. we see happening now. We all want what's best for our children. Maybe that's a starting point of reconciliation between this terribly divided country.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
