Jehovah's Witnesses: When will the WT Society accept responsibility for their false 1914 prophecy?

Sales technique - instill a sense of urgency. Edit. In part.

For potential recruits it also creates that sense of urgency. Hurry, hurry, better make a decision before it's too late. But not only that, it's about milieu control.

For those in the group, salvation can only be found in-group, and as the end of the world™ is nigh, it provides a strong motivation to remain in-group. If you have doubts, it raises to bar in terms of expressing those doubts or acting on them. It also helps to create a guilty milieu and a shaming milieu; the end is nigh, why have you done so little to spread the message to the lost, or what do you mean you can't evangelize today, don't you know the end is nigh etcetc. There's lots on how cults work; search coercive thought reform, mind control, how cults work etc etc. Here's a link to Lifton's work on the Psychology of Totalism http://www.rickross.com/reference/brainw...

1899 "...the 'battle of the great day of God Almighty' (Revelation 16:14), which will end in A.D. 1914 with the complete overthrow of earth's present rulership, is already commenced," (The Time Is at Hand, 1908 edition, p. 101). 1918 "Therefore we may confidently expect that 1925 will mark the return of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and the faithful prophets of old, particularly those named by the Apostle in Hebrews 11, to the condition of human perfection," (Millions Now Living Will Never Die, p.

89). 1968 "True, there have been those in times past who predicted an 'end to the world', even announcing a specific date. Yet nothing happened.

The 'end' did not come. They were guilty of false prophesying. Why?

What was missing?.. Missing from such people were God's truths and evidence that he was using and guiding them," (Awake, Oct. 8, 1968). 1968 "Why are you looking forward to 1975?" (Watchtower, Aug. 15, 1968, p. 494).

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
