1 A web site run by hackers, because charging for the unlock code is part of the manufacturer's business model. Which means that giving out the unlock codes is a violation of the anti-hacking statues. While you're at it, you might ask why "2600: The Hacker Quarterly" is one of the few magazines sold almost exclusively on the news stand, and almost exclusively in cash transactions.
If you're not enough of a L33t HaX0r to find the web site on your own, you don't get to play with the site's hacker toys. That's one of the unwritten rules. Besides, given the state of Internet legislation, if I did know of such a site, I wouldn't admit it in a public forum until after reporting it to several of the appropriate law enforcement agencies.

2 If charging for an unlock code is part of a manufactures "Business Model," then why don't they sell you the unlock code. For a consumer to go to some third party site does the manufacture absolutely no good. Even if they get a cut, they could be getting the entire profit, if what you say is true of course... Doesn't make sense to me.
I believe the manufactures lock the region for various reasons, and are not hoping that you pay someone to unlock the region restriction.

3 Welcome to the wonderful world of copyright protection in the 21st Century. Just because you paid for something doesn't mean you own it. Nor does it have to make sense to anyone, including the business that sold you the license to unusable hardware.
For a less flippant summary of why it's illegal, and why the reasons given make no sense, you might skim this:eff.org/wp/unintended-consequences-seven... .

4 You contradict yourself Murstein. First you say, "charging for the unlock code is part of the manufacturer's business model. " I state the fact that it is not the manufactures who are selling region unlocks, you have no response.
I don't quite understand your latest comment. Just because I paid for something doesn't mean I own it? What do regions have to do with copyrights anyway.
They sell region free DVD players you know. You act as if unlocking your DVD player to make it capable of playing any region is illegal. The fact of the matter is, and my father in law's whole purpose for trying to unlock the region, is that not all movies are released in every country.
He frequently buys imported DVDs from around the world and wants to be able to watch them.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
