My computer is running slow what steps can I do to fix it?

Your computer's slow performance can be caused by data corruption, low memory, too much hard disk, RAM memory used or inefficient hardware devices. In order to fix the problem you can try any of the available options below. 1) Run a computer scan to check whether your computer was corrupted by a virus/worm.2) Make sure that there are no hardware conflicts or any other compatibility issues.3) If you're using Windows, try updating your programs or even reformat your PC.4) Upgrade your memory!

Disable all startup items (start-all programs-accessories-system tools -click on system configuration utility- click on startup tab and click disable all,apply,ok and restart) Download and run a virus/spyware scan with Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware Run Disk Cleanup Check how much RAM you have (start-right click my computer-left click properties **for vista and windows 7 start-run-click on system properties at the top**). If you have more than one real-time antivirus program on your computer,uninstall one and keep the other (i. E Norton,TrendMicro,McAfee,etc.).

Defrag Hard Drive.

1) Scan for viruses and spyware , I recommend AVG and Spybot. But don't run two AV programs at the same time. 2) Reduce the number of programs loading at startup.

Have only the ones absolutely necessary. 3)Uninstall programs you may never need and also run a diskcleanup and chkdsk. CCleaner is a great diskcleanup program, its free.4) Defragment.

Check your HDD free space. Depending on how fragmented the drive is and how much free space you have run the windows defragger or download a good third party defrag program that will defrag under low free space. If you get the full version and set it to run in the background you need not worry about defrag after that.

Download and run Advanced System Care to optimize your settings 3. Download and run AVG anti-virus to clean out bugs (Only if you don't have a current anti-virus program already). Uninstall any unused Anti-virus programs that are out of date before you install AVG.4.

Download and run Auslogics Disk Defrag to defragment your hard drive 5. Download and install any Windows updates from http://update.microsoft.com 6. If computer still runs slow, you may need to install more memory.

You should install the maximun amount the computer can use. To find out how much memory your computer needs and what kind to buy go to crucial. Com and run their memory checker.

You can buy the memory directly from them or write down the info and take it to Best Buy. Best Buy will charge more than Crucial will. Sometimes a lot more.
