My dad is complaining about how much it costs to power a hair straightener and blow dryer?

I don't know, but I think your father is exagerating. My kids have that thing going at least twice a day and I'm pretty sure that's not what's driving up the cost.

Does your Dad watch a lot of tv, if so he would be very hypocritical as it takes up twice as much to run.

Well if you left a non energy saving lightbulb on all day it would cost around 4p so I imagine some hair straighteners only cost about 4p a week for the amount of time you use them.

Not expensive at all. For me, I pay anywhere from 10¢ - 13¢ per kiloWatt-hour (kWh). The highest I've ever paid was 16¢.

So let's say 15¢, just to give your dad some credit. 1,000 watts for an hour is 1 kWh. For an HOUR, that's 15¢.

But you're only running it 1/3 of an hour (20 minutes). So that's only 1/3 of 15¢, or 5¢.4 times a week, that's 20¢. 4.33 weeks per month, and you're spending less than 87¢ a month.

Now I don't know how much electricity you use a month, but my bill is about $85. So your hair dryer would consist of about 1% of my electric bill. The other 99% is being used elsewhere.(And that doesn't count the summertime when my air conditioning doubles my electric bill.).

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
