My FIL has a constant runny nose so it is ALWAYS dripping. My MIL says they have taken him to the doctor?

My FIL has a constant runny nose so it is ALWAYS dripping. My MIL says they have taken him to the doctor... They say it has something to do with the draining of the tears from his eyes and there is nothing they can do about. She says it isn't gross because it is clear fluid... We say yes it is clear but it is still gross - you never know when it is gonna drip and what it will drip on.

He frequently doesn't wipe it (and never blows it! ) until we mention it. The FIL was visiting us for a week and it was kind of embarrassing to take him out into public - church, grocery stores etc. My question is... Can anything be done?

My husband will have to present specifics to his mother to have it checked out again. If I could get some decent keywords I could google it myself but all I get now in my searching is info about infants with blocked tear ducts. It is more like his tear ducts are like funnels with spouts out his nose instead of tubes down his throat...Thanks for any help or support you can give!

1 It reminds me of a Roseanne Rosannadanna SNL skit - she had this little, teeny, tiny ball of sweat right here, hanging off the tip of her nose. It was just hanging there! It wouldn't fall off!

2 I'm sorry you're so embarrassed by you father-in-law. I understand your point of view, and I understand his. I hope you will learn to over look the problem.

One thing I can promise you is that, if you live long enough, your body will play tricks on you that your progeny will be embarrassed by. We need to have more patience with each other. We're all human.

3 It would be nice to have a solution so he has a better quality of life. What a bother to have to constantly deal with. He is also constantly hassled at home to wipe it.

When he was visiting we wanted to let him be and not hassle him about anything - he gets enough of that at home. The dear man wanted to be helpful especially in the kitchen - we just weren't comfortable with that because we did not want him to drip in or on anything that was food or food prep.
