My mp3 files keep deleting from my mp3 players when I connect it to my car stereo?

I have a Sony car stereo, and every time I connect any mp3 player to it via 1/8 in. Audio cable it will delete all but one song.It has done that to me on three different brands and types of mp3 player. What is causing this?
